Brooke Shields Thought a Camera Lens Was Dusty During a Photo Shoot, Then Realized It Was Her First Wrinkle
Her new memoir 'Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old' dropped Jan. 14
Brooke Shields recalls the exact moment she noticed her first wrinkle in a passage in her new book.
The actress and model, 59, detailed seeing the crease in her skin during a photo shoot in her memoir Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old – which hit the shelves on Jan. 14.
Shields wrote that she "took a peek at the monitor" after posing for a few snaps.
She then pointed to what appeared to be a "weird line" on her check and told the photographer, "I think there’s some dust on the camera lens."
The photographer, however, quickly corrected her.
"His response was something to the effect of a pitying 'Awww, you’re cute.' There was no dust. That 'something' was a wrinkle," Shields penned.
The Commence CEO continued to share that once, at a routine dermatology appointment, the doctor "waved his hand around my face and said, 'We could fix all that . . .' " in regards to her aging appearance.

"I look back sometimes and feel like I’ve done something wrong because I no longer have the body or the face that I used to have. And yet, if I did anything drastic to hold on to my looks from my youth or to stop aging, I’d be judged or chastised for that, too," Shields wrote in reflection. "Do I sometimes wish that all my bits had remained higher and perkier? Or that I had the same skin that appeared on the cover of Life magazine in 1983? Of course I do!"
Published by Macmillan, the memoir is "an intimate and empowering exploration of aging that flips the script on the idea of what it means for a woman to grow older."

Shields said she struck up a conversation about wine with the owner of the house.
"I was comparing myself to a 1965 bottle of Barolo — like it's jam at this point," she explained. "He kind of shut down, and his tone changed. He said, 'You really shouldn't have told me that.' I thought, 'Wow, wait a minute — this is offensive.'"
The actress continued, "And that's when it hit me: We imprint on people at certain ages — like we have their picture in our locker, then when they grow older, we're not ready for it. We've aged too. And I think it's courageous to get older."
