Brooke Shields’ daughter is opening up about her mom's hilarious texting habits.

While chatting with PEOPLE at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the actress, 59, and her daughter Rowan Francis Henchy revealed how they maintain their tight-knit relationship while Rowan is away at Wake Forest University. Asked how often they talk during the school year, the 21-year-old shares, "Every day."

However, "It's more me texting her because she's not great with when messages are sent," Rowan admits to PEOPLE of her mother at the New York City event.

"Even today, in the car," she begins to explain, "I sent a photo from her phone to me three days ago. We had a conversation about it. The dog ate one of her shoes." Four days later, Shields opened her phone back up, and "she goes to our text and she goes, 'The dog did it again,' " Rowan recalls.

Rowan says she tried explaining to her mom at the time, telling her, "Mom, that was four days ago. I was sitting next to you. You sent me the text from your phone, and the dog didn't do it again. It's the same exact thing."

While chatting with PEOPLE for a cover story in August, Shields was joined by both daughters before they headed off to school. "I'm terrified!" Shields told PEOPLE of her girls going away and becoming an empty nester. "I'm worried about me, just as much as I'm worried about her," joked Grier.

"Feelings are fraught," said Rowan, who's a senior this year at Wake Forest University, where Grier has joined her as a freshman. "I mean, I've already done it, and she was a mess. I think she's really busy now, which is good. Swamp her with work!"

"Off the record, I'm hoping you and Dad rekindle the flame," Rowan joked.

For Shields, it's a bittersweet moment as her daughters spread their wings and move out of the nest, becoming their own person.

"All of a sudden they are not yours anymore," Shields said. "When you realize they are their own human beings, you get to meet them again."
