Britney Spears' Ex-Husband Unveils the 'Weirdest Thing' About Their Relationship

Sam Asghari is opening up about his relationship with Britney Spears almost two years after the former couple revealed they had split.

During a recent appearance on Kate and Oliver Hudson’s Sibling Rivalry podcast, the 30-year-old model didn't hold back when asked about his high-profile romance with the Grammy winner.

For context, when Asghari and Spears began dating, she was still under the controversial conservatorship implemented by her parents in 2008. Five years into their relationship, Asghari proposed, and two months after that, the "Toxic" songstress was awarded her freedom in a November 2021 court ruling.

Asghari and Spears tied the knot six months later, holding a ceremony and reception at their home in Thousand Oaks, Calif., on June 9, 2022, surrounded by loved ones and fellow A-listers like Drew Barrymore, Madonna, Paris Hilton and Selena Gomez. But in August 2023, after about 14 months of marriage, the duo called it quits, citing "irreconcilable differences," and in May 2024, it was announced that the couple had officially finalized the terms of their divorce.

Looking back, Asghari told the podcasters that he doesn't have any regrets. "I’m always gonna be grateful and happy that it ever even happened," he shared. But there is one thing that stood out to him during their relationship.

“One day I start learning about what the conservatorship is, and that’s when I was like, ‘Wait a minute. I thought I’m in America. What do you mean someone over the age of 18 needs permission from their parents?'” Asghari revealed.

"That was the most difficult and weird spiral thing that I’ve witnessed in my life," he added in a clip from the Jan. 27 podcast.

Asghari continued, explaining that "one of the hardest things" to wrap his head around is his observation that those who work in entertainment are "taken advantage of" by their inner circle.

"Your parents and the people around you, and everything that happens, and everybody that comes into your life that’s taken advantage—that damages you because those are the people that are closest to you," he said. "Usually, the people that are around you, the people that you allow into your circle, you kind of are vulnerable to them."

"They take an advantage because they think, you know, you owe something to them or something, which is so ridiculous," he concluded.

Since the couple broke up, Spears, now 43, has been living her best solo life, occasionally entertaining a flirty fling here and there. As for Asghari, he publicly debuted his romance with his girlfriend, Brooke Irvine, earlier this year.
