Bridgerton star reveals gross fact about show's sex scenes: 'Horrendous'

Regé-Jean Page has shared an insight into what it was like behind-the-scenes of the Netflix series.

Bridgerton became the most-watched series in Netflix’s history when it premiered in 2020, with its diverse casting and modern interpretation of the costume drama receiving enormous praise.

But it was the raunchy sex scenes and undeniable chemistry between leads Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page that truly set the internet alight.

The pair, who played the characters Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset, appeared in a number of X-rated scenes throughout the show’s first season which social media users couldn’t stop talking about.

Now, Regé-Jean has shared a surprising insight into what it was like filming the steamy moments during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The British actor admitted that he and his co-star both had terrible mouth odour while filming.

“What no one knows about Bridgerton, Phoebe and I both had horrendous coffee breath the whole way through,” he revealed.

“We made a pact early on - it’s one of the things you do. You approach your other actor and you go, ‘Hey, so the scenes after lunch, what are our rules? Are we no onions? Are we no garlic? Do I have to get the coffee in early?’

“And then we both were like, ‘Actually, I really like coffee so I don’t mind’ and we were both like, ‘Thank god!’. So we had a coffee safe space the whole way through that show.”

Phoebe spills on Regé-Jean’s scent

Phoebe previously spoke about her and her co-star’s coffee-drinking habits and his scent in a 2021 interview with Glamour.

“He smells really, really nice,” she said. “He never, ever had bad breath, and he doesn't smoke or anything like that.

“We both drink a lot of coffee, so sometimes we both smell like that, which was fine. He's unscented in a good way.”

Despite being one of the leads in season one of Bridgerton, Regé-Jean didn’t return for the second season as he wanted to explore other opportunities.

He told Variety he was more than happy to have a “one-season arc” on the show with a “beginning, middle, end” where he could “contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”

Meanwhile, Phoebe reprised her role as Daphne in season two last year but announced in January that she won’t be appearing in the upcoming season.
