Bridesmaid's midriff dress causes backlash online: 'I would be so mad'

"Bridesmaid, no. Guest, yes."

An Australian woman has caused controversy online over her choice of a two-piece bridesmaid dress, with some people deeming the look 'inappropriate' for a wedding.

In a series of videos on TikTok, Aussie woman Georgia asked her followers for help in deciding her bridesmaid look for her sister's wedding, saying the theme was pink but the bridesmaids got to choose their own dress.

"I’m in an absolute panic about what to wear to my sister’s wedding tomorrow; I’m a bridesmaid, the theme is pink, and we got to pick our own dresses,” she explained, as she showed off her two choices.

One dress was a pale pink ensemble with a darker pink floral design that bared her midriff, while the other dress was a shimmery pale pink gown with longer sleeves.

'So mad'

"I would be so mad if my bridesmaid wore a bare midriff at my wedding," one person said. "Both look so casual for a bridesmaid," another person said.

However other people stepped in to defend the fun style of the first dress.

"Obsessed with the first it is so fun and fabulous," one fan said. "I like the first one! I think the midriff look is okay because the skirt is very long," another person said.

Georgia opted for dress number one in the end, showcasing what it looked like on the special day, saying the bride had approved of the dress.

Still, even with the big day officially done and dusted, the gorgeous look caused debate in the comments.

"Bridesmaid no. Guest yes. It’s gorgeous and looks great, but I feel the style will look dated in a while but still be in most of my wedding day pics," one person commented. "Personally I wouldn’t but mostly because of the broader aesthetic I want for my wedding," another person said.

"This was a million times over the right dress!" one person said, while another agreed and said it shouldn't matter.

"Couldn’t care what they wear so long as it’s not the colour of my dress, I appreciate them being there at all," they said.
