Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin have considered forgoing a big wedding and eloping — but they are worried about how a certain family member would take the news.

The couple, who first began dating in 2017, opened up about why they have yet to tie the knot since getting engaged three years ago in a new interview with Cosmopolitan, published on Monday, Jan. 27. Song, 36, revealed that she and the Home Alone star have "talked about eloping."

Only, there's one major hitch. "I was like, 'If we eloped, my mom would have a heart attack that she wasn’t going to be there,’ ” the actress explained.

Shaking his head at the mere idea of upsetting his future mother-in-law, Culkin, 44, exclaimed, “I wouldn’t even!”

When it comes to making their relationship official with a wedding, it seems the two aren't feeling much pressure. "Do you not want to marry me?” Culkin asked Song during the Cosmo interview, prompting her to giggle.

"I’m fine if we don’t,” the American Horror Story star insisted. “I just want to know.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Culkin said, “I got your back no matter what. I’ll do whatever you say you want to do," adding, "I’m in this to the end, to the very end.”

The couple also reminisced to Cosmo about the early days of their relationship. They first met in 2014 at actor Seth Green’s house, and Song recalled Culkin "trying to be funny" about her and Green's sitcom Dads getting canceled. "She was thoroughly unimpressed by me is what I will say,” Culkin told the outlet.

The pair crossed paths again in 2017 when they filmed the indie movie Changeland together. They began to hang out during downtime and their connection grew. After Culkin gave Song some of his personal journals to read, the Dollface star said, she got a deeper look into who he is as a person.

“I saw this person he put out there — it was a product of this armor that he’s put on to protect himself,” she told Cosmo. “But I could see that that wasn’t really who he was; I could see these glimpses of this really interesting, very sensitive, very intelligent, artistic person that he doesn’t really let show.”

After wrapping Changeland, the two continued to meet up and spend time together. Song invited Culkin to her family's home one Christmas and while Culkin said "I still technically wasn’t a boyfriend," he knew he was in love with her.

“I’d never felt this way before,” he told Cosmo. “I believed in her. I mean, I believed in people before, but I believed in her down to my bone marrow. You know what I mean?"

The couple welcomed their first child, son Dakota, in April 2021. Months later, in January 2022, Culkin popped the question — in a proposal involving 21 individually wrapped garden gnomes, they told Cosmo.

Later that year, Song revealed to PEOPLE that she and Culkin were delving into wedding planning — but she was finding the process challenging, especially with a young baby to care for at home. "Wedding planning is so expensive and it takes up so much time," she said in September 2022. "Being a new mom, we're so busy."

Not long after, the couple welcomed a second child, son Carson. Culkin's brother Kieran revealed the baby news while attending the Succession season 4 premiere in New York City in March 2023, telling Access Hollywood, "I haven't met No. 2 yet," because his sibling's family lived across the country in Los Angeles.

Culkin was joined by Song and his two kids when he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2023. In a heartfelt speech at the ceremony, he took a moment to praise his fiancée for her love and support.

"You are absolutely everything. You're my champion," he told Song. "You're the only person happier for me today than I am. You're not only the best woman I've ever know, you're the best person I've ever known."
