Brawl Stars Celebrates 25th Anniversary With SpongeBob In-Game Takeover
"If nautical nonsense be something you wish,” then you’re in for a treat. SpongeBob SquarePants has shown up in one of the world’s most popular mobile games, Brawl Stars. Developed by Supercell, the game has been reimagined with the world of Bikini Bottom as the show celebrates its 25th anniversary. Embracing Nickelodeon’s iconic animated series, the in-game takeover will run until October 2, inviting fans to soak up nostalgia and humorous shenanigans as cherished characters from the television series reanimate as Brawlers.
Aside from the OG himself, fan favorites like Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Squidward and Sandy are joining the game takeover alongside an all-new Bikini Bottom-inspired game map and temporary Power-Ups during gameplay. With a dose of nostalgia, players can expect nods to the show’s most infamous (and meme-able) moments, like the Krabby Patty, Clarinet and Kelp Soda, which will assist players in dominating the playing field during battle. Additionally, themed game modes will introduce a new wave of pandemonium, like Jellyfishing, where players can catch...you guessed it, jellyfish.
Since this is no ordinary takeover, Supercell teamed up with WWE legend John Cena to appear in a hilarious launch commercial driving excitement for the new in-game takeover. Seen relaxing on a yacht while playing Brawl Stars, his phone falls into the ocean, and true to form, Cena brings his signature charisma to the water-bound fiasco.
Since launching in 2018, Brawl Stars has amassed over 1.3 billion downloads and grossed over two billion dollars in lifetime revenue.
To join the fun and team up with SpongeBob and Bikini Bottom’s nautical community, players worldwide can download Brawl Stars on iOS or Android.
