Blueberry farmer's beautiful offer goes viral

A blueberry farmer’s thoughtful gesture inviting drought-affected farmers to spend the Christmas holidays at her home has made her an online viral sensation.

Kellie Potts has been applauded by fellow Facebook users after she explained the unit on her blueberry farm just north of Coffs Harbour is usually used for pickers, “but this Christmas we would like to put it to better use”.

Heart of gold

“Over the Christmas holidays would like to offer my unit to a few families of my friends, off farms in rural NSW that have had a really tough year with the drought,” she wrote, emphasising, PLEASE ONLY FARMERS FAMILIES APPLY”.

I don’t know how to spread the word, but I am hoping that you will share this for me,” she wrote.

Kind gesture goes viral

Little did she know the touching post would be shared over 3,000 times within a week, with hundreds praising her for her generosity in the comments section.

Such a wonderful thing to do you are so kind and I’m sure that farming families will love it,” one Facebook user wrote.

What a lovely thing to do, hope your next blueberry crop is A1 Xtra good. Have a great Christmas,” said another.

Those nearest and dearest of farmers affected by the drought also expressed their appreciation.

“What a lovely thought, my daughter and family have a farm in central west, very hard year and would have loved your offer, but we are going out there, God bless you for your kind heart,” wrote one of the commenters.

Farmers affected by the drought

Dryer conditions in recent months have left Australian farmers struggling.

In August official figures showed 100% of NSW was impacted by drought, with less than 10 millimetres of rain recorded in the western, northwest, and central areas of the state over the month.
