Though Blake Lively has been on a streak of fashion-filled press appearances for her new film "It Ends With Us," the star's most exciting (and glamorous) style moment arguably happened Tuesday evening at the movie's New York City premiere.

Lively chose a vintage one-shoulder Versace gown from the label's Fall 2002 Ready-to-wear collection — but the look's charm doesn't stop with its archival appeal. The rainbow sequin-embroidered dress, otherwise known as the "butterfly dress," is widely recognized for being in the fashion canon of Britney Spears, as the star wore it to attend Versace's Spring 2003 runway show in Milan. Since then, the images of the beloved pop star's high-style moment go Pinterest-viral on a regular basis.

In an on-carpet interview with People, Lively confirmed the dress is the exact garment Spears once wore: "It is Britney's actual dress. It should be in the Smithsonian or the Met. But it's on me." In another interview with ExtraTV, Lively implied that she purchased the dress specifically for the occasion, saying, "When this dress was available I was like, 'Yes, I need it!' I've had it for almost a year now and I've been saving it for this."

And it's a good thing she did: The various splashes of hot pink matched the premiere carpet perfectly. Lively paired the georgette-crafted look with several chunky bejeweled rings, holographic silver heels and her signature blonde waves. (A styling detail Spears also chose when she wore the look back in the day.)

Nail artist Elle Gerstein used the light pink shade "Switch to Portrait Mode" by OPI to complete the glam, with Lively adding ensemble-complementary butterfly stickers on top to finish.

On the significance of wearing such an iconic outfit of the singer's, Lively said, "[The dress means] so much to me because of what she meant to me. She was just someone who represented love, beauty, youth and hard work and determination and strength [...] Britney has just meant so much to me forever. I'm a forever Britney stan."
