Blake Lively apologizes for 'Photoshop fail' post in wake of Kate Middleton cancer diagnosis
"That post has me mortified today," the actress said on social media.
Blake Lively is sorry for her royal faux pas.
Following the news of Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis, the Gossip Girl and A Simple Favor actress posted an apology on social media Friday for previously poking fun at the Princess of Wales' recent photo-editing mishap.
"I'm sure no one cares today, but I feel like I have to acknowledge this," Lively wrote in her Instagram stories. "I made a silly post around the 'photoshop fails' frenzy, and oh man, that post has me mortified today. I'm sorry. Sending love and well wishes to all, always."
Though she did not mention Princess Catherine by name, it was clear Lively was referring to a since-deleted post that she had shared as part of a viral trend highlighting blatantly altered images amid the kerfuffle surrounding a digitally manipulated photo of Catherine and her three children that Kensington Palace distributed on Mother's Day in the U.K.
In the wake of the photo being pulled by the Associated Press and other news agencies, speculation about Catherine's condition raged, as did jokes about the altered image and the princess' subsequent apology, which read, "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused."
Many observers, including Lively, jumped in by sharing their own much more egregiously altered images alongside Catherine's apology.
After weeks of mounting rumors, commentary, and conspiracy theories, the Princess of Wales shared a video Friday revealing that her previously announced abdominal surgery had led to the discovery of cancer, for which she is now beginning a course of chemotherapy.
