'Bizarre and confusing' pregnancy announcement sparks debate
A woman has taken to Reddit to find out if she was in the wrong due to her reaction to another someone announcing a pregnancy at her party.
The poster wrote that she and her husband invited eight friends to their place for lunch one day and were asked if they could also invite a couple they'd never met before named Doug and Sasha. While the poster and her husband didn't know the couple, all the other friends did, so they said yes.
"At one point Sasha needed to use the restroom, and I told her to use the master since the other bathroom was occupied," she wrote. "I was helping my husband finish with food when Sasha came out of the master bawling and holding something in her hand. At first I thought she hurt herself, but she said something to Doug that caused him to drop to his knees, cry, and begin kissing her stomach.
"All of our friends begin screaming, jumping, and crying. It was insane. Finally, Sasha tells my husband and I that she is pregnant. Of course, we congratulate both she and Doug and gave them a bag for the test (their request)."

The poster and her husband congratulated Sasha and Doug on their pregnancy, with the poster admitting she found it a bit odd that Sasha had brought and used a pregnancy test to "a complete stranger's house", but she didn't say that.
"Once everyone sat down to eat, Sasha said: 'OP, I hope you don't mind that I used one of your pregnancy tests. I just saw them and had to.' I responded, (confused) 'I don't have pregnancy tests'. Sasha says 'Yes, in your drawer'. I asked Sasha if she meant the blue box in the back of my lower left drawer that was closed.
"She seemed to realise I was pointing out that she basically snooped and sheepishly said 'the box said pregnancy for pregnancy test'. I said 'Sasha, the brand is Pregmate and those are ovulation tests. I do not own pregnancy tests. Did you take an ovulation test?'"
The OP continued, "Doug freaked the absolute F out at me saying his wife was not an idiot and can read a box. He insisted Sasha get the test out and show me that I'm wrong. Sasha refused saying she didn't need to prove anything to a complete stranger and insisted they leave immediately.
"One of the couples thought Doug and Sasha acted ridiculous. The other three couples thought I should have pulled Sasha aside to discuss my concerns and said I was an a**hole for saying something in front of everyone. Honestly, the whole situation caught me off guard and everything happened so quickly. The whole thing was bizarre and confusing. I just didn't have time to put the pieces together mentally before asking about the ovulation tests."
She later found out Sasha had indeed taken an ovulation test and wasn't pregnant.
In an edit, she later added that she found out the other couples were a lot closer to Doug and Sasha than she had originally realised and that Doug "constantly brings up wanting to have a baby every time they see him".
She also shared that Doug had divorced his first wife because she was "old and infertile" and married Sasha because she was younger and more fertile, something she had overheard Doug tell other friends previously. For this reason, Sasha thought Doug would leave her if she didn't have a baby.
"Doug was mortified by the ordeal and D&S have been fighting a lot," she added.
"Sasha has been badmouthing me to anyone who will listen. She believes I ruined her marriage and embarrassed her and Doug because my husband and I were threatened by D&S and the friendships they were building. Sasha told my girlfriends they shouldn't spend time with me anymore because who can be friends with someone who treats a guest in their own home that way."
While the OP is now back on good terms with her friends, they thought they should take Sasha's side in the moment purely "because they knew how important the pregnancy was to her marriage".
She added, "Also, yes my husband and I have been privately trying to get pregnant. I am pissed that now my friends are aware."
Commenters were quick to tell the OP she was not in the wrong in this case.
"NTA [Not the A**hole]. I would never let these snooping, INSANE people in your house again," one user wrote. "Let's SAY you can ignore that she dug through your drawers, which is weird enough. But then she USED one of your tests. And THEN she made the announcement at your house, not even privately. I feel like this lady found them on purpose and made this whole scene because there's something wrong with her."
"Also who takes a pregnancy test and decides that is the perfect moment to share it with friends and people you have never even meet," another agreed. "Tell your partner at home, go to the doctor, wait a few weeks minimum, then share the news. Most people wait 12 weeks and for good reasons."
"NTA. A stranger pawed through your personal items then acted like a jerk," someone else wrote.
"Yeah, what?? Also, ovulation tests are not cheap," another appalled commenter wrote. "I’d be furious with her, who cares about her feelings when she’s rifling through your things and stealing them. Absolutely bizarre, unacceptable behaviour."
"NTA - it's weird to immediately announce a pregnancy like that after just an at-home test," someone else added. "People wait three months for a reason. Nothing about this situation isn't weird."
