Newly-engaged Bindi Irwin, 21, has revealed that she wants to televise her upcoming wedding to her 22-year-old fiancé Chandler Powell.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the young conservationist admitted that she’s been “wondering” about sharing her nuptials on TV, but that it “depends on season three of Crikey! It’s the Irwins.”
Crikey! It’s a wedding
“We are wrapping up filming of season two for the new show, which is wonderful. And Crikey! It’s the Irwins has been so special for all of us,” Bindi said.
“So yes, let’s put it out there to Animal Planet. Should we do a wedding special? I’m excited to include our engagement on Crikey! It’s the Irwins . So be sure to watch out on Animal Planet on season two,” the animal lover added.
Bindi went on to confirm that season two of the reality show - which is filmed at Australia Zoo and also stars her mum, Terri and brother Rob - will go to air “in the fall in the United States.”
She encouraged fans to tune in “because we’re going to have some engagement exclusives on the show.”
“And then maybe, following on from that, next year we can have the wedding included as well. That’ll be pretty cool, wouldn’t it?” Bindi said.
Honouring her dad
The TV star has already decided that she wants to say ‘I do’ at Australia Zoo so she can feel close to her late dad, Steve Irwin, who passed away in 2006 when a stingray barb shot him through the heart.
“The most important thing is getting married here at Australia Zoo because this is where I feel closest to Dad. So there’s going to be a whole lot of planning that goes into the wedding day,” she explained.
“But for me, at the heart of it all, I want to make sure that my mum is there, my brother is there, and that it’s a really close family event and we’ll remember Dad, whether it’s a clip that we play of Dad or something that just reminds us of him,” she added.
A perfect proposal
Bindi’s boyfriend of six years, Chandler Powell, popped the question on her 21st birthday on July 24.
“On my birthday I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life,” Bindi wrote on Instagram.
Florida native Chandler presented his lady love with a vintage-style lab-grown diamond on a rose gold band with an estimated cost of $70,000.
The pair - who first met at Australia Zoo and now work there together - haven’t yet set a date to get hitched but are planning to do so sometime in 2020.
