An oldie, but a goodie – It's A Wonderful life is about George Bailey, a man who is about to take his own life on Christmas Eve, when his guardian angel takes him on a journey to show him how many lives he's touched around him and the impact he's made on his community.
It's considered one of the greatest movies ever made and is perfect if you feel like shedding a few tears.
Love Actually - Binge, Stan and Amazon Prime
It's not really Christmas if you haven't watched Love Actually is it? It's hard to believe this movie is 17 years old now, that makes us feel old...
Love Actually follows a number of different storylines, showing different aspects of love through a wide variety of characters, many of whom we find out are linked to other characters and storylines as the tale progresses.
The Holiday - Stan, Netflix and Amazon Prime
Another Christmas classic, The Holiday stars the gorgeous Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz who play two women hoping to escape their relationship issues by swapping houses for Christmas. However, they are in for quite the surprise when they each meet charming local men played by Jude Law and Jack Black – yes, it's not exactly the role you might picture Jack Black in, but just go with it, you might be surprised!
Home Alone - Disney+
We all know this story, but for those who have somehow gone this long without watching this Christmas classic, Home Alone follows Kevin, a young boy who is accidentally left behind while his entire family goes away for a Christmas holiday. When two robbers attempt to target his home, he comes up with a crazy plan to protect his home.
Elf - Available to rent on Amazon Prime
You'll need to rent this one, but, let's be honest, it's totally worth it! Elf stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, a human, who was raised amongst Christmas elves his whole life. After discovering he's not, in fact, an elf, he travels to New York City to find his biological father and craziness ensues.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas - Stan, Netflix and Amazon Prime
Based on the classic Dr Seuss story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas stars Jim Carrey as the Grinch, who lives alone above the town of Whoville and despises Christmas. Young Cindy Lou (played by Gossip Girl's Taylor Momsen) tries to make him appreciate the festive season by nominating him as the town's Holiday Cheermeister, however, the Grinch decides he will instead crush the Whos' Christmas spirit by stealing all of their gifts.
The Santa Clause - Disney+
Who could forget The Santa Clause, starring Tim Allen, the movie centres on Scott, who accidentally kills Santa on Christmas Eve. Taking his son Charlie, Scott puts Santa's suit on and delivers presents around the world, he doesn't realise, however, that because he put the suit on, he is subject to a legal technicality called 'The Santa Clause'. The head elf informs him he must accept all of Santa's roles and responsibilities. Scott then has one year to get his affairs in order before having to return to the North Pole to fulfil his duties.
Arthur Christmas - Netflix and Binge
Arthur Christmas follows Arthur, Santa's clumsy son who finds out one little girl will be without a Christmas present thanks to a mistake. With the help of his grandfather, an elf and some untrained reindeer, Arthur attempts to save the girl's Christmas.
Holidate - Netflix
Holidate stars Emma Roberts as Sloane, a young woman who hates Christmas due to the judgement she receives from her family for being single. After a chance meeting with Jackson, played by Aussie Luke Bracey, the pair decide to be each other's 'holidates' - platonic friends who pretend to be each other's dates for special occasions like Christmas, New Years Eve, Easter etc. Craziness ensues and they realise they may actually like each other more than they thought.
Dash & Lily - Netflix
A sweet series based on the book Dash & Lily's Book of Dares, the show sees cynical Dash find a mysterious red notebook filled with clues hidden at his favourite book store by Lily, who is feel especially lonely this Christmas. The pair continues to swap the book, sending each other little dares in order to help them out of their comfort zones and slowly fall for each other, all without ever even meeting.
Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special - Apple TV+ (available from December 4)
Mariah Carey, along with Tiffany Haddish, Billy Eichner, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg and more, brings us a variety-show spectacular that is sure to get you in the festive spirit.
There'll be a new version of her song 'Oh Santa!' with Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson, Misty Copeland will play the Sugar Plum Fairy and much more.
Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square - Netflix
Dolly Parton stars in this Christmas musical featuring Christine Baranski as a woman who plans to sell a small town without any care for the people who live there. Dolly arrives (with a bunch of original songs) as her guardian angel to help her make the right decision.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey - Netflix
One to watch with the kids, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey stars Forest Whitaker and Keegan-Michael Kay, while John Legend provides the film's musical score.
The movie is about an eccentric toymaker, his adventurous granddaughter and a magical invention that could change their lives forever.
