The Best Charli XCX ‘Saturday Night Live’ Sketches
Charli XCX made her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live on November 16, ten years after she first performed as the musical guest in 2014. Following her summer of success with the massively popular album Brat, the pop star was tapped to play double duty on the show’s latest episode, both hosting and performing. In addition to a number of hilarious sketches, Charli sang her hits “360” and “Sympathy Is a Knife.”
Fans will note that actor and model Julia Fox made a brief appearance to introduce the singer, who has included her name in some pretty iconic lyrics.
Highlights from Charli’s sketches on Saturday include a sequel to the bridesmaid sketch first introduced by Ariana Grande a few weeks ago, this time with the group of girls singing the story of their “one last girls’ trip” set to Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!”
Former cast member Andy Samberg made a return as well, appearing in an SNL digital short called “Here I Go” about suburbanites reporting people to the cops.
“Here I go, I report you to the cops, and I report you anonymously!” sang Samberg. “I’m gonna sleep like a baby tonight!”
Another fun short offered viewers a glimpse at some never-before-seen screen tests for the new Wicked film adaptation of the Broadway musical, in which cast member Bowen Yang played Charli XCX, while the star herself played friend Troye Sivan. Meanwhile, the rest of the cast got to display their best impersonations of themselves auditioning for the roles of Elphaba and Glinda, with Charli returning to do her best Adele. Spoiler: Not a lot of them could hit that final note in “Defying Gravity.”
The musician even got to stretch her skills even further in a sketch about an acting teacher by playing a struggling student.
And then things got heated during a Thanksgiving baking competition.
Her range!!!
