SZA drops 'Lana' after hourslong delay: 'We been up for days'
SOS − SZA is back in her feels.
The notoriously elusive artist re-entered the public fore on Friday by releasing "SOS Deluxe: Lana," a highly anticipated album that builds upon the lore from SZA's Grammy-nominated 2022 album, "SOS."
The release was seemingly delayed by several hours, with the "Kill Bill" singer noting in a Thursday Instagram story that she "Just needed a few more hours for new mixes to ingest evenly across all platforms .. (mixes are important)." She'd added in an Instagram post that "All songs are delivered and ingesting into the system as we speak. pls be kind .. we been up for days."
"Lana" includes 14 new tracks for fans to enjoy, including a brand-new collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, "30 For 30." The album also includes "Saturn," the lead single SZA released back in February, which earned her two Grammy nominations for the 2025 ceremony.
The theme of album's visuals, which see SZA embodying various otherworldly creatures, were teased during her Jingle Ball set in Los Angeles earlier this month, which incorporated set pieces such as a giant leaning tree trunk and larger-than-life ant that made the stage look like "A Bug's Life" landscape infused with a dose of extraterrestrial.
SZA, Ben Stiller join forces for 'Drive' music video
Earlier in the day, the songstress dropped an incongruous collaboration: a music video with comedian Ben Stiller.
The "Zoolander" star is seen lip-syncing to SZA's newly released track "Drive" in a moody video that dropped Thursday. Behind the wheel, with a barely visible road ahead of him, Stiller sings softly at first and then dramatically, pointing and shaking his head.
The result is a dashboard confessional (literally) as viewers see Stiller swerve on the road and exit the car, the music moving him apparently too much to be confined to the vehicle.
Eventually, SZA appears in some brush off the highway, with alien-like makeup and clad in nothing at all.

SZA drops 'Lana' after 'SOS,' ahead of tour with Kendrick Lamar
The R&B star, who has reached a level of success rarely crested by artists with only two studio albums, is capping off a busy few years.
After the release of "SOS" in 2022 and the subsequent tour, fans were instantly clamoring for more. Enter: "Lana," a seven-to-10-track project building off the success of "SOS."
SZA will begin touring for the album shortly after its release, joining rapper Kendrick Lamar for a 19-stop stadium run across the country. She is also starring alongside actress Keke Palmer in the upcoming comedy film "One of Them Days."
