Ben Stiller Finally Acknowledges His Secret ‘Severance’ Cameo
Although he’s yet to outwardly confirm it, this is probably the closest Severance fans will get to Ben Stiller acknowledging his secret cameo on the show.
The Apple TV+ sci-fi thriller series stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower and John Turturro as a group of employees at Lumon Industries, an enigma of a company that prides itself in its “severance” program which splits its staff’s personal memories from their work memories in an effort to achieve work-life balance.
Along with serving as one of the show’s directors and executive producers, Stiller also boasts an uncredited voice-over cameo in the series which some might miss on their first watch. The short scene takes place in episode 8 of Severance’s first season, and sees–more like hears—Stiller voicing the animated version of Lumon founder Kier Eagan as he congratulates an employee for reaching their quota.
On the Jan. 15 episode of The Severance Podcast with Ben Stiller & Adam Scott, Stiller finally addressed the cameo when co-host Scott and guest Turturro played the clip.
“So Ben,” Scott says. “That voice sounds familiar.”
“Some guy,” Turturro chimes in.
“This is some actor that they hired to do the voice for the congratulatory animated video,” Stiller joked.“Obviously an out-of-work actor who needed the gig… A guy who got a couple of callbacks for Severance but couldn’t get in.”
In a 2022 interview with ET, Lower confirmed that Stiller was the voice behind the animated Eagan. “There’s a little Easter egg of a voice. If you’re paying close attention, it’s Ben’s,” the actress told the outlet. “That’s him.”
Season 2 of Severance premieres January 17 on Apple TV+.
