Ben Affleck Had the Nicest Thing to Say About His Ex Jennifer Lopez
The most supportive ex-husband.
This summer, the world saw a tragic end to The Greatest Love Story Never Told: Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck called it quits for the second time. The multi-hyphenate filed for divorce on their second wedding anniversary, and while the move marked the end of their romance, the two still have "a lot of love" for each other and are committed to staying "friendly." Now, three months after they split, they've stayed true to that promise, with Affleck and his ex-wife Jennifer Garner's daughter, Violet, even spending quality time with the Lopez family. Plus, earlier today, Affleck also had some surprisingly nice things to say about Lopez.
The Gone Girl star was joined by his best friend and business partner, Matt Damon, and Cillian Murphy for an interview with Entertainment Weekly. They discussed upcoming films Small Things Like These, in which Murphy stars, and Unstoppable, the latest two projects to come out of Damon and Affleck's production company Greenlight.
The latter film, a sports drama that follows Anthony Robles's rise as a champion college wrestler despite being born with one leg, stars Lopez as Anthony's mom, Judy.
Affleck had nothing but praise for his ex-flame's performance, gushing that "Jennifer is spectacular."
He continued on about the rest of the cast: "Jharrel [Jerome is] amazing and Bobby Cannavale, and [director] William Goldenberg did a great job, and Don Cheadle. It's another one that we're really really proud of. I think if there's any sort of key to what success we've had so far...it's just an enormous success for us because of how beautiful it is. We've believed in the right people, and UnStoppable is another example of that."
The Accountant star added that what makes Unstoppable great is the fact that it's "rooted in the passion of really talented artists."
"[The cast was all] really passionate about this film, and then [they] got to know Anthony and Judy and the relationship with them and the passion they had to bring this story alive," Affleck explained. "It speaks to a certain thing that I guess we're drawn to, which is we really believe in the power of storytelling when the people involved in it are deeply emotionally connected to the story."
While the ex-couple are keeping things cordial, Affleck was noticeably missing from the movie's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Lopez walked the carpet in a silver revenge dress, alongside Cannavale, Jerome, Cheadle, and Damon.
