Barbie Transforms Designer Carolina Herrera Into Doll Form in Honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Celebrating Their ‘Strength in Femininity’
Venezuelan fashion designer Carolina Herrera will be immortalized in Barbie form, Mattel has announced.
The one-of-a-kind figurine commemorates Barbie’s 65th anniversary, as well as Hispanic Heritage Month in the U.S., which takes place between Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. Mattel has also launched two Barbie dolls dressed in looks from Herrera’s fall 2024 collection, designed by the label’s current creative director, Wes Gordon.

Between Friday and Tuesday, the dolls will be auctioned off through Bidding for Good. All of the proceeds will be donated to Solving Kids Cancer, a nonprofit that funds breakthrough pediatric cancer treatments.
“Barbie has always been a very special doll for all the girls I know,” Herrera said in a statement. “Many have been created to represent multiple versions of women through the years, and I hope this one can make a lot of children very happy through our donation to Solving Kids Cancer.”
The fashion designer’s doll is dressed in a Herrera Red silk faille column gown with a detachable train and overskirt in Poppy Pink. Gordon designed the look, which Herrera wore at the New York City Ballet’s annual Fall Fashion Gala in 2023.
“Carolina Herrera and Barbie are both icons synonymous with strength in femininity,” added Gordon. “I was thrilled to attend the New York City Ballet Fall Gala last year with Mrs. Herrera dressed in one of my designs, and to have this look in signature Herrera Red and Pink immortalized in this way makes it all the more special.”
One of the other dolls sports a black-and-white bias-cut silk faille ballgown, while the second wears a puff-sleeve wrap top in white cotton and a tiered ruffled midi skirt in black sateen cotton.
Barbie has a history of turning famous women into one-of-a-kind dolls. The toy brand has released miniatures of Venus Williams, Claudia Schiffer and Helen Mirren, among others, in recent years.
