'It’s hardcore': Bachelorette's Angie speaks on Matt and Chelsie's shock split

She may be completely smitten with Carlin Sterritt after finding love on this year's The Bachelorette Australia, but Angie Kent has nothing but sympathy for Bachelor couple Matt Agnew and Chelsie McLeod, after they announced their shock split this week.

The 29-year-old appeared on Channel 10’s Have You Been Paying Attention last night, where she was asked about Matt and Chelsie’s news.

"Once you get out of the Bachie bubble, it’s up to you then to kind of create a connection and see how it goes,” Angie said, before adding that “ it’s hardcore”.

Sam Pang then asked Angie what happened, claiming he didn’t know who either Matt or Chelsie were.

Host Tom Gleisner then tried to explain it to Sam, saying: “Sometimes in life, couples reach a natural end to their contractual arrangements and we wish them well.”

Matt and Chelsie split

Just six weeks after the finale of The Bachelor Australia aired, both Matt Agnew and Chelsie McLeod announced on Sunday that they had decided to part ways.

“Our relationship hasn't translated from filming to the real, every day world as we had hoped,” Matt told followers on Sunday afternoon.

“Chels and I have made some beautiful memories together that I’ll always cherish, and I wish her nothing but the absolute best.

“I want her to find the happiness she deserves. For those who may wonder if there’s someone else for me right now, there absolutely is not. It’s no one’s fault, it’s just life.”

In her own emotional post, Chelsie echoed Matt’s amicable sentiment, telling followers he “showed me what it was like to be respected in a relationship and I am so thankful for that.”

“However, it saddens me to say that we are no longer together. I wish him nothing but the best. I’m sorry to those that were invested in our relationship.”

Chelsie has since updated her Instagram profile to include a teardrop after her name.

How their romance happened

Chelsie and Matt found love on the Channel 10 reality show, with the astrophysicist telling the chemical engineer she is the ‘perfect woman’ during the finale.

“Chelsie I love you,” he gushed.

“What?” a stunned Chelsie replied, before admitting, “Thank God!”

“You make me want to believe in fairytales because when I’m with you I feel like I’m living one,” a beaming Matt went on to say.

He then presented his lady love with a ring “to mark the occasion,” which he slipped on Chelsie’s middle finder.
