“The Bachelorette”'s Jesse Palmer on Grant's surprising confession to the guys

The "Bachelorette" host also reacts to Jenn's decision about her ex, and... dingleberries.

Each week during The Bachelorette, host Jesse Palmer will answer a few questions about Jenn's "journey" to find "love." Today, Jesse shares his thoughts via email about Jenn sending her ex back to America, Grant's surprising confession of love, and... dingleberries.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Jenn ultimately declined to let her ex, Matt, join her journey and instead sent him home. Before he left, Matt went in and introduced himself to the guys and apologized for upsetting them — which I thought was pretty brave. What was your reaction to Matt's farewell speech to the guys?

JESSE PALMER: I thought it was very brave and I think Matt showed a lot about his character in that moment. Speaking to the men was an ultimate sign of respect towards them and their journey with Jenn. I commend Matt for what he did.

The next day, you and Jenn talked about Matt's departure. How would you describe her mindset after making the decision to move forward with just her Bachelorette men?

That was a very symbolic moment for Jenn on her journey because she now is starting to put herself first and seize her own power in relationships.

Jesse, why does ANYONE on this show ever reveal that they're afraid of heights? They always end up on the top of a building or, like Jonathon on his one-on-one date, in a helicopter soaring over a city!

Great question. Someone should just lie and say they’re terrified of pizza and chocolate, puppies and yachts and hot tubs!

Grant confesses his love on 'The Bachelorette'

Grant really found himself in his feelings (as the kids probably no longer say) after his one-on-one date with Jenn — and he even told the guys he is falling in love with her. What was your reaction to his emotional reveal?

I give Grant a lot of credit, because it wasn’t just acknowledging how he felt, but then also sharing how he felt with the other men at a time when not many others were verbally expressing how they felt. You could tell that was a very emotional moment for Grant.

Finally, let's play "would you rather, Bachelorette in New Zealand edition." Would you rather: Jump off the top of the Sky Tower or snip dingleberries from a sheep's behind? (And please explain your choice. )

Snip dingleberries from a sheep’s behind. For one, I love sheep. Two, my feet would be firmly planted on the ground. Three, I wouldn’t be putting my life in the hands of a tandem jumper or someone who packed my parachute.

The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
