Baby Reindeer’s Richard Gadd Inks First-Look Deal With Netflix to Develop New Scripted Series
Newly minted Emmy winner Richard Gadd has signed a first-look deal with Netflix.
The multi-year pact, which was announced by Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos at the Royal Television Society (RTS) London Convention on Tuesday, will see the Baby Reindeer auteur develop new scripted series for the streaming giant.

“I’m beyond thrilled to be continuing my creative journey with Netflix,” Gadd said in a statement (via Tudum). “They took a chance on me when I wasn’t proven in the television space; for that I will always be grateful. I look forward to the years ahead with Netflix, ideas with Ted, Bela [Bajaria], Anne [Mensah], Peter [Friedlander], and all the amazing staff who work at the company.”
The deal comes less than 48 hours after Gadd took home three Emmys for breakout hit Baby Reindeer, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. The show earned an additional three Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actress (for Jessica Gunning, aka Martha), Outstanding Picture Editing and Outstanding Casting, for a total haul of six Emmys.
The first-look deal comes three months after Gadd’s Baby Reindeer follow-up landed at HBO and the BBC. The six-episode project, which has the working title Lions, will follow a pair of men with a complicated shared past. “When Niall’s estranged ‘brother’ Ruben shows up at his wedding, it leads to an explosion of violence that catapults us back through their lives,” reads the official logline. “Spanning almost 40 years from the 1980s to the present day, this ambitious series will cover the highs and lows of the brothers’ relationship, from them meeting as teenagers to their falling out as adults — with all the good, bad, terrible, funny, angry, and challenging moments along the way. It will capture the wild energy of a changing city — a changing world, even — and try to get to the bottom of the difficult question… What does it mean to be a man?”
