Aussie influencer mum-shamed on TikTok: 'Everyday I receive nasty comments'

Kat Clark has slammed people who have told her to start "dressing her age".

An influencer and mother-of-two has shared the horrific shaming she's received online after using her platform to showcase her styling choices, single-parent struggles, and other snippets of her life.

Kat Clark, 37, has over 5 million TikTok followers and over 347 million likes on the platform.

While putting her life out on the internet has Kat used to negative remarks, in a recent video she said a fellow mum at her daughter's football game told her to start "dressing her age" because she was wearing a crop top.

“I’ll wear crop tops until I’m 80 just watch me,” she captioned the video.

Speaking to news.com.au, the content creator said she tries to "ignore" negative remarks but the sheer volume of them can make that difficult.

"It’s actually mind-blowing to me that people are offended by what I chose to wear," she said.

“I try to be strong and ignore the negative comments but when you see so many come through about how you look it does make you start to feel a little insecure.”

Kat has been married to her husband Jonathan for nearly 20 years and is the mum of two daughters, giving birth to her eldest daughter Latisha when she was 17.

The influencer also opened up to news.com.au about a particular dress she wore recently that required her to go braless, saying people kept commenting to tell her to put a bra on.

"A lot of people were offended by this," she said. "Every day I get nasty comments about my outfits. People were commenting, asking me to ‘put a bra on’ and to ‘have a little respect for myself’.

"A few people said they were ‘disgusted’ because I was a mother and didn’t have a bra on.”

She also said the abuse was cross-platform, with negative comments on Facebook also body-shaming her.

“There’s always lots of negative comments on Facebook about my choice of clothing too, saying I should ‘size up’ and ‘cover up’ more," she said.

Kat said some of the nastier comments she's received over time were people insinuating she's "overweight" and "too old".

“In another Instagram post I wore a lacy top and people were body shaming me for the veins in my chest,” she said.

However, the backlash isn't going to stop the mum in her tracks, with Kat saying she wants to be a positive role model for other women and girls out there.

“I don’t want my children or the young girls that follow me to feel like they need to change the way that they dress or present themselves based on someone else’s opinions,” she said.
