Aubrey Plaza's Husband Jeff Baena Has Died by Suicide at Age 47

Aubrey Plaza's husband, writer and director Jeff Baena, has died by suicide, People confirms. He was 47 years old. 

TMZ was the first to report the news, with law enforcement sources telling the outlet that an assistant discovered Baena's body at a Los Angeles home around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 3. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Baena attended film school at New York University and moved to Los Angeles after graduating to launch his career in entertainment. By 2004, his name was put on the map after he co-wrote the film I Heart Huckabees, starring Jude Law and Naomi Watts, and not long after that, he made his directorial debut by writing and directing Life After Beth, a zombie comedy that starred Plaza.

Other notable film credits under his belt include Joshy, The Little Hours, and Cinema Toast, which aired on Showtime in 2021.

Plaza and Baena met and start dating in 2011 and a decade later it was revealed that the two had tied the knot during the COVID pandemic in May 2021, after Plaza referred to Baena as her "darling husband" on Instagram. "So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to italia to cause some more trouble 😈," she wrote in reference to the comedy Spin Me Round

Later that year, Plaza revealed what it's like working with her husband while making an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. "It's so great," she said. "It's so complicated. It's, like, extreme highs and extreme complications. It's a really hard thing to navigate, but man, we've been together for 11 years. We just muscle our way through it."
