A pair of bizarre bum zip jeans by retail giant ASOS have been mocked online, with fans wondering, 'What were they thinking?' when designing the daring denim.
At first glance, the light-wash blue jeans don't look too unusual from the front, but the view from behind is a whole other story.
Bum zip jeans
It turns out that the edgy, exposed zipper on the front of the jeans doesn't come to an end after a few inches like a traditional fly. Instead, the zip continues down and follows the crotch line, right up to the top of the back waistband.
Needless to say, the eye-catching feature puts the wearer's derrière in the spotlight and begs the question — is it functional or decorative?
A snap of the garment — called the ASOS LUXE Hourglass skinny jean with zip-through detail in blue, $50 — was shared on a tongue-in-cheek Instagram account @asbos_sos, which pokes fun at the more eccentric designs from the British company.
"Hats off to ASOS for finally acknowledging their IBS audience," read the caption, along with the hashtags "#a*sezip" and "#whenugottagougottago".
"Oh my god," wrote one follower in the comments, while another admitted, "Actually genius tbf".
It's not the first time designers have taken zippers to the extreme. Back in 2017, both Reformation and The Vetements x Levi’s collection caused a stir with their versions of the 'bum zip'.
