American Pie's Alyson Hannigan shows off 'insane' 9kg transformation

American Pie and How I Met Your Mother actress Alyson Hannigan has revealed she lost 9kg competing on the US version of Dancing with the Stars over the past two and a half months.

Taking to Instagram earlier this week, the 49-year-old reflected on her life-changing reality TV experience and shared before and after photos showing off her impressive transformation.

“The before and after says it all,” she wrote in the caption. “I lost 20 pounds of both weight and emotional baggage during my time on @dancingwiththestars.

“I can’t thank [my dancing partner] @sashafarber1 enough for helping me shed my insecurities and getting me to the confident and strong place I am today!”

The two snaps show Alyson wearing similar silver dresses, with the recent photo highlighting her toned arms and smaller figure after performing for 11 weeks.

Alyson’s followers quickly took to the comments to applaud both her physical and mental transformation, with her Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar writing: “I just see confidence gained.”

“You look amazing before and after. The biggest difference is how much confidence shows through your smile now! I’ll always be a big fan!” one fan replied.

“You look stunning in both, but this transformation is insane!” another added, while someone else said, “You look amazing! It was so fun to watch your growth over the season”.

“An incredible transformation I’m so happy for you even though you look fabulous in both - you look radiant in the second picture, I can see how happy it has made you,” a different user replied.

'Indescribable'

Following last week’s grand finale, Alyson shared a lengthy post on Instagram expressing her gratitude for how her Dancing with the Stars experience changed her life.

“To go into this journey with mostly fear, and come out how I feel now is indescribable,” she wrote. “I cannot thank @sashafarber1 enough for everything he gave me, shared with me and experienced with me. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. Thank you for not giving up on me.

“Thank you for giving me confidence and making me feel like I could do this and then getting me there and having so much fun along the way. I am so glad that you came into my life and you’re not gonna get rid of me now.”

Alyson finished in fifth place during the season 32 grand finale, beaten out by Bachelorette star Charity Lawson, Vanderpump Rules cast member Ariana Madix, singer-songwriter Jason Mraz and winner, actress Xochitl Gomez.

The reality show also saw her compete against Britney Spears’ sister Jamie-Lynn Spears, who was the second celebrity eliminated, and Australian reality star Harry Jowsey, who was sent home in week nine.
