Alex Miller and Emily Ann Roberts have been friends for a couple of years now, but some fans of both country musicians seem to think as of late that these two are together.

“Maybe we get along too well because I have people on social media asking if I’m going to marry her!” Miller, 21, tells PEOPLE. “Emily is very happily married. And I'm sure Chris [Sasser], her husband, will be really upset. Anyways, it's been so much fun seeing other people's reaction to the song.”

In a rare link-up of American Idol and The Voice alums, respectively, Miller and Roberts have collaborated on the new song "More Country Than You," premiering exclusively on PEOPLE.

“Alex and I have always been kindred spirits because we’re both young kids with hearts that beat for traditional country music,” says Roberts, 26, who competed on season 9 of The Voice. “We’ve been writing together for a while now and we knew we found something special with 'More Country Than You.’”

“[Roberts] is from Tennessee, and I'm from Kentucky, and there's a big rivalry between the two about which one is more country,” Miller adds. “And so that's why I thought, ‘Man, what a perfect way to write this song and get that rivalry together.’”

“More Country Than You” showcases the lighthearted rivalry between Roberts and Miller with back-and-forth lyrics between the two, such as, “I make biscuits and gravy, not like my mama do / I think I’m a little more country than you.”

“We both had a ton of fun with the back-and-forth banter in this tune,” Roberts says of the jovial song, written alongside Miller and hitmaker Bill Whyte, teasers of which have already garnered millions of views. “I hope folks get a laugh out of it too when they listen.”

"It was one of the most fun writes I've ever had, and I'm sure you can hear it in the song,” says Miller of the song, crafted in a mere two hours. “It just seemed like it came together very quick. Every line just fell where it needed to be and needed to say what needed to be said.”

The lyrics are as authentic as their friendship. “It's not just about it being a great country duet,” Miller says of the song he hopes to perform live on the stage at the Grand Ole Opry with Roberts someday. “It's about us and it's about our lifestyle."

The duet went so well that the two are already talking about doing it again. “I don't feel like it is our last duet,” explains Miller, who appeared on season 19 of American Idol. “I love her country style, and I think it's very similar to mine. We got together and wrote a few things, and they were great songs. It might be stuff we cut in the future. I don't know.”

Miller says he’s also got some more duets up his sleeve. “I think this is a first of a series of duets that I'm going to do,” he says. “I have another duet cut. But it's not with a female, it's with a male. It's in the works, and it's with a country music legend. It'll be somebody that everybody should recognize, and I think everybody will be very excited about it.”

Certainly, old school duets have long served as quite an inspiration for Miller. “The ones that come to mind to me are not Johnny Cash and June Carter, but June Carter and Carl Smith’ duets from the '50s,” says Miller. “June Carter was such a fiery personality, like Emily Ann is, and Carl Smith was such a very upstanding, very country dude as well. So, I think our duet is very similar to those two in a sense."

But they were married and we're not," he quips. "So, let's get that right."

In fact, Miller is in a relationship of his own "How do I not incriminate myself here?” he says. “I do have a girl I'm kind of going steady with and spending time with, and I'm really enjoying being around her. And that's all I'll say."
