Aly Michalka denies rumor she dated Disney Channel costar Raviv Ullman: 'It was always a friendship'

Sorry, Phil and Keely fans: Aly Michalka shut down rumors that she dated her Phil of the Future costar Raviv Ullman.

On the latest episode of Call Her Daddy alongside sister AJ, Michalka was asked about the rumored romance and was stunned to discover that it was part of the rumor mill. "That's funny. Is this like a thing online?” asked the singer-actress.

To which sister AJ Michalka interjected, “Literally, can attest. Never even kissed."

“No, no, it was always a friendship," confirmed Michalka of her former Disney Channel costar, who was billed under the name Ricky Ullman at the time.

The sci-fi comedy, which ran for two seasons from 2004 to 2006, followed Ullman's Phil and his half-human, half-robot family. Originally from the year 2121, the family is stranded on Earth in 2004 after their time machine malfunctions during a family vacation. There, they're forced to acclimate to life in suburbia. Michalka played Phil's human pal Keely, and their characters even became a couple.

And though Michalka never dated Ullman, she did admit to finding her costar cute while testing for the series. “I saw that he was the other boy that was up for it [and] I was like, 'He's really cute,'" recalled Michalka, who was 13 at the time. "And then of course you meet and then you're like, 'Oh, now we're just buddies.'"

Both sisters are Disney Channel alums, having co-headlined the 2006 original TV movie Cow Belles, about two spoiled sisters forced to work the family business. It was during that time that they began releasing music as pop duo Aly & AJ and even toured with the Jonas Brothers. AJ Michalka and Jonas Brothers member Joe Jonas also notably dated during that time.

"There was a spark," recounted AJ of her relationship with Jonas.

So much so that they tried to set up Aly with fellow Jonas brother Kevin. "And I was like, it's not really vibing," said Aly.

"You can't like force them. You can't force it," added AJ. "It was natural that Joe and I had a connection. We were all buddies.”

The sister pop duo have continued to make new music in the years since they left the House of Mouse. They're gearing up to release their sixth studio album Silver Deliverer, and will drop the first single from it, "What it Feels Like," on Jan. 10.
