The Allrecipes Winter Issue Is Here—Get Dolly Parton's Family Recipes, Plus 52 More
You're not going to want to miss this one.
The new issue of the Allrecipes Magazine is a special one: On the cover is one of country music's greatest stars, Dolly Parton, and her sister, Rachel Parton George. Five of our new recipes come straight from their new cookbook, Good Lookin’ Cookin’, which Allrecipes' own Senior Editorial Director Arie Knutson dives into as part of the cover story. “Cooking is like writing a song,” Dolly says in the story. “Some of my best songs I came up with while cooking my best food, and vice versa. The better I write, the better I cook.”
Outside of the Parton sisters' recipes, you'll find all kinds of new recipes from our test kitchen: classic cold weather favorites like chili, easy ways to use miso, and plenty of dips, soups, and desserts. The magazine comes out October 18 with more than 50 recipes to cook all season long, so if you want to stay up-to-date on all the most delicious seasonal recipes, subscribe here to the Allrecipes Magazine.
Carrot Halwa
"Served warm, gajar ka halwa (carrot halwa) is a sweet pudding of simmered carrots, milk, sugar, and cardamom," says Allrecipes Allstar Nosheen Babar about her new recipe. "There are several types of halwa in South Asia and this carrot halwa is especially popular during both Diwali and Eid."

Hatch Chili Verde
"Hubby and I are Hatch chile fanatics," says Allrecipes Allstar Yolanda Gutierrez. "We buy 50 pounds of roasted Hatch chiles when they are in season. We portion them out and freeze them so they are readily available. This chile verde does not call for tomatillos because I wanted the chiles to be the star of the recipe."
Touchdown Chili
"Every year when football season rolls around and the weather begins to cool, my husband requests I make this hearty, beanless chili," says recipe creator Jenn Polk. "It receives rave reviews from everyone."
Pork Chili Verde
"This pork chili verde was one of the first recipes I ever learned," says Chef John. "It comes out great even if you don't brown the meat, but I think doing so always adds extra flavor, so I usually do it."
Easy White Chicken Chili
"This white chicken chili has a wonderful flavor and is especially good for a quick and hearty meal on a cold winter day," says recipe submitter EPHESIS. "This recipe was given to me by a good friend and co-worker. It is the best!"
Fantastic Black Bean Chili
"This black bean chili is a nice and easy way to feed a crowd. I never knew what I was missing until my mother-in-law made this," says recipe submitter Rebecca. "Everyone begged her for the recipe! Freezes well and easily doubled for a larger crowd. Top with your favorite shredded cheese."
The Best Vegetarian Chili in the World
"This spicy vegetarian chili is ready in no time and packed with vegetables, beans, and flavor!" says recipe creator calead910. "Break out your soup pot and fix up a batch of this delicious chili—it tastes even better the next day."
Savory Apple-Gruyère Flatbreads
"When apples are abundant and inexpensive in the fall, jazz things up with a savory apple naan flatbread, with a perfect balance of sweet and savory," says Allrecipes Allstar Pat Bernitt.
Spicy Pumpkin Noodles with Ground Turkey
"This incredible Asian-style noodle dish features a very unusual combination of pumpkin and Korean chile paste that makes for one of the most delicious noodle dishes I've had in a long time," says recipe developer Chef John. "It's the perfect recipe for fall, but really, can be enjoyed any time of the year."
Miso Maple-Glazed Salmon
If something has Miso on it, I want it. "This simple glaze combines salty and savory miso paste with sweet maple syrup. The rice vinegar marries the two, and a few drops of hot sauce are all you need to complete this incredibly easy, yet sophisticated dish," says Chef John.
Sweet Potato Burrito Bowls
"This meatless burrito bowl is packed with flavor; the earthy sweetness of roasted sweet potatoes combined with well-seasoned black beans and topped with sautéed poblano peppers, red bell peppers, and onions take this dish to the next level of goodness. Top with a lime and fresh cilantro," says recipe creator CookingWithShelia.
Mama's Banana Pudding
Dolly and Rachel love their mom, and it shows in this banana pudding. "There are so many versions of banana pudding—or puddin', as we call it," say Dolly and Rachel. "This one allows you to make it from scratch like we do and always have, just like our mama and our grandmas and our aunts used to do. Just be sure to make enough!"
Dirt Road Martini
This dirty martini should probably be enjoyed with some Dolly Parton on in the background. Rachel's version of the classic cocktail uses olives, of course, but she does not stop there. Tea and Giardiniera round out this delicious and pickly drink.
Country Ham and Biscuits
"This is one of my favorite recipes from many years ago, and it is still a fantastic biscuit!" says Rachel Parton George. These biscuits take advantage of bacon grease, so this recipe gives you a good excuse to cook up those thick-cut slices in the fridge.
Rustic Chicken and Dumplin's
"There are so many ways to make this dish, and since our brothers and sisters cook as well our family has several versions," says Rachel. "I often ask the meat department or butcher to hand cut a whole chicken into pieces for me (the backbone and wings can be used later to make stock). This is one of Dolly's favorite dishes, so I usually make it for her birthday in January."
Slaw of Many Colors
"Our grandfather was a preacher, so when we were growing up, the whole family would often join the community for all-day church singing and dinner on the grounds," say the Parton sisters. "There was almost always a table covered with food, including bowls of coleslaw. Each one tasted different, because every cook used their own special ingredient. This is ours, and it is full of colors—purple and green and red. It's got everything!"

Chef John’s Scallion Pancakes
"These fun-to-make flatbreads are a common fixture on menus in China, and while they all feature the same few ingredients, they come in a variety of thicknesses," says recipe creator Chef John. "The thinner you make these, the crispier they'll be, but you won't get that nice, layered, oniony inside. On the other hand, if you make them too thick, they can be a little doughy inside, so I try to shoot for something in between."
Classic Vichyssoise
"This was classic," says Chef John. "The finest of French restaurants would be proud to serve this to its diners!" This soup might seem hard to make because it's hard to pronounce. It is quite the contrary.

Svenska Köttbullar (Swedish Meatballs)
"This Swedish meatball recipe is our family's Christmas tradition. We frequently double the recipe and keep it warm in a slow cooker," says recipe creator Nom Nom Nom. "Worth the effort, and the meatballs are even better the next day! Reserve brown gravy and add sour cream to it the day you serve the leftovers."

Potato Croquettes
The next six recipes get a retro refresh by the Allrecipes team, starting with these classic croquettes. "Pancetta, garlic, and Romano cheese bring potato croquettes into the 21st century by way of Italy," says recipe developer Juliana Hale. "The zingy dipping sauce relies on Dijon, citrus, and herbs to cut the richness a bit."

Modern Watergate Salad
Watergate salad might be the ultimate retro salad. The Allrecipes team put a modern spin on it. "Swap out whipped topping for fresh whipped cream and add Amarena cherries for a welcome sour note in this fluffy dessert," says recipe developer Kathryn Hendrix, RDN, LD.

If you're looking for a fun libation when the leaves start to turn, try out this recipe. "Orange wine makes this party drink lighter and fruitier than the original version. We love Tinto Amorio’s Monje for its bright, juicy notes," says recipe developer Kathryn Hendrix, RDN, LD.
