Aldi workers share their top product picks for 2020

Aldi workers have revealed their favourite products from the popular German supermarket, after 300,000 Aussies also chose their top picks in the annual People’s Picks awards.

The People’s Picks is an Awards program designed to uncover exactly what Aussies can’t resist dropping in their trolley, but employees also had a say in what they liked best.

Not a day goes by without Aldi fans taking to social media to share their favourite foods and bargain finds with friends and family.

This year voting categories introduced 10 new themes based on the different activities we all do at home (today, more so than ever!) - think ideal BBQ addition, favourite sweet treat, or must-have platter inclusion.

The product that took out the top spot for 2020 was the Essential Health Paw Paw Ointment, after receiving the most overall votes from both employees and the public.

Here are the top 10 products as voted by Aldi insiders - the employees:

  • BBQ: Specially Selected Brioche Burger Buns 4pk

  • Beauty: Essential Health Paw Paw Ointment 25g

  • Money Saver: ALDImobile

  • Breakfast: Bakers Life Croissants

  • Cleaning: Di San Oxy Action PreWash Stain Remover 500ml

  • Convenience/Time saving: Brannas Butchery Boneless Butterflied Chicken

  • Health: Forresters Natural Almonds 750g

  • Lunchbox: Westacre Snack n Go Colby Cheese with Rice Cracker 4pk/100g

  • Platter: Emporium Selection Brie or Camembert Cheese 200g

  • Sweet treat: Storck Knoppers 200g 8pk

When it came to the public vote there were a few differences.

Here are the peoples’ top Aldi product choices in each category:

  • Sweet Treat: Monarc Utopia Mini Variety Ice Cream 12 pk 600 ml

  • Money Saver: Beautifully Butterfully Slated Butter 250g

  • Most convenient: Bakers Life Wholegrain Wraps 8pk

  • Health: Forresters Natural Almonds 750g

  • Beauty: Essential Health Paw Paw Ointment 25g

  • Breakfast: Bakers Life Croissants

  • Cleaning: Di San Oxy Action PreWash Stain Remover 500ml

  • Lunchbox: Blackstone Vegetable Straws 110g

  • Platter: Emporium Selection Brie or Camembert Cheese 200g

The People’s Picks awards also highlights the supermarket’s commitment to finding and stocking the best Australian made products, with eight of the 10 winning products being locally sourced or made.

ALDI’s shopping expert, Nicole Higgins, said: “We work closely with local growers, producers and partners every day to create and supply products that deliver on taste, quality and value. Once a product is on the shelf, we are certain that it is of the highest quality, for a fraction of the price. The People’s Picks is our way of saying ‘you don’t have to take our word for it!”
