The new school year is creeping up at an alarming speed, sending parents into a frenzy of getting their kids everything they need for the playground and beyond. From lunchboxes to school shoes and more, many mums and dads have a long list of items to check off before term one begins.

And, because these are the times we live in, it's no longer just notebooks and pencils that kids need - it's electronic devices as well. Oh, what a time to be alive!

Given that life is expensive enough as it is, you can imagine that we parents are always on the hunt for a bargain, discount or dupe - making places like Aldi a great place to start when looking to save money.

While shoppers rave about many Aldi finds, there is one product that seems to have left customers dissatisfied.

Taking to Facebook, one parent asked about the 7-inch Bauhn Kids Tablet, lamenting that they had not been able to get it to connect.

"Has anyone brought one of these tablets from Aldi?" they asked. "We got it today but it won't even pick up our Wifi is anyone else having this problem or is the a way around it to connect it?"

While quite a few people said that they had the $89 tablet and had experienced no issues with it, many others shared a common complaint about its shortcomings.

"Yep got it to connect now it won’t let anything play and basically no sound will be taking it back," one disgruntled shopper wrote.

"We took our twins 10" ones back a week after purchasing them because they were absolutely crap," another wrote. "I will never buy a Bauhn tablet again. Loving their [Aldi's] new Lenovos though."

"I bought 2 yesterday and we've had nothing but issues," someone else shared. "Doesn't connect to our 5g network and constantly turning its self off I'd listen to everyone and spend a bit more on a decent one."

"We have the bigger tablet," yet another person added. "Have previously had one with no troubles. This one won't connect to WiFi unless we restart it, and then it drops out after around an hour."

"Take it back. Worthless," was another comment.

It wasn't all doom and gloom though as some parents shared a feature that they like on the Bauhn tablet

"My son has one and it’s good, it’s just a bit slow and the battery dies fast. But you can set up complete Google parental controls on it from your phone, so I have complete control of what he can play how long for, and I can turn it off from my phone and block access to things," one shopper said.

"Just purchased for my 6yr old and yes it’s small but it does the job," another added. "You can put parent control on so it times out you can control what apps they download etc."

In another Facebook discussion, the consensus was that another tablet sold at Aldi - the Samsung A9 - was a better deal, despite being $100 more.

"Samsung 100% it's kids safe as well due to the Samsung kids app that allows a child to be locked to a kids screen and only use apps you approve and download," one customer said. "Then when they are old enough, you can use the same tablet out of kids mode as a normal tablet."

"I'd definitely go Samsung and put in the money, the cheap ones are painfully slow and often not compatible with a lot of stuff," another Aldi customer said. Samsung have kids mode which you can turn on with passwords so they can't press anything in ads or purchase anything in games. My daughter's first one lasted 5 years until we upgraded."

"Samsung tablet 100%," another added. "Cheap "kids" tablets have always proven to be a waste of money."
