Aldi shoppers in uproar over 'absolutely disgusting' meat product: 'Disgraceful'

Customers are split on whether the issue lies with the meat quality or cooking technique.

Aldi shoppers are at odds over a recent post in the popular Aldi Mums Facebook group that has fuelled a heated debate. The post, showing a photo of lamb souvlaki meat that the poster alleged was full of fat and unfit for consumption, has stirred passionate opinions and divided the community.

"So annoyed," the shopper began, expressing her frustration. "You can't tell in this photo due to the sauce covering everything (you also couldn’t tell in the bag before it was open) but the meat on the chopping board is ALL fat. Literally half the lamb souvlaki strips were unable to be eaten, they were heavy white fat with a slither of lamb attached. Now, I know lamb is a fatty meat but that is disgraceful for $14. I don't even have enough to make the meal anymore."

The post continued with a lament about the texture, describing it as "tough white meat, not pleasant."

The complaint quickly drew a wave of responses from the community, with some agreeing wholeheartedly.

"Happened to us last time we got it too. It was super hard and not nice to eat, it wasn't the best bits and it didn't melt out," one member shared. Another added, "We got this too and it almost all ended up in the bin."

Several others chimed in with similar experiences. "I bought this too and it was mostly fat. Very disappointing," one person wrote.

"I had the same issue, it was absolutely disgusting. Some had massive veins attached too, I threw the lot in the bin," another lamented.

The discontent continued to grow, with comments like, "Can't afford to throw away $14," and, "Pre-cut meat is never great," with shoppers pointing out both financial and quality concerns.

"They cover these cuts with lovely coloured spices so you think they're going to be nice," one member remarked cynically.

It wasn’t just Aldi that came under fire; the conversation broadened to other retailers as well.

"Had the same thing at Coles the other day, bought what we thought was a nice lamb shoulder... wrong. Full of gristle and fat," one user noted.

Another added, "The one I got from Woollies was like this too. I'll never buy it again from anywhere. Complete waste of money."

However, not everyone agreed with the negative reviews. Some members defended the product and suggested that the issue lay in the cooking method.

"It's just a fatty cut of lamb that needs rendering when cooking," one comment read. "Personally, that's the best bits," another member stated.

"We actually had this tonight. We really enjoyed it. Maybe you just got a fatty batch."

"Can't believe some people are like 'I threw it in the bin'. Animals have fat. Eat a salad instead then."

"I just feed those bits to my husband," someone else joked.

Some members also suggested alternative solutions, "If you're after a meat that doesn't have a high-fat content, then I'd suggest you don't eat lamb."

Yahoo Lifestyle contacted Aldi for comment on the meat.

While an Aldi spokesperson did not directly address questions about the product, they confirmed customers can return any unsatisfactory product for a refund or replacement.

"We encourage customers to provide feedback to Aldi directly through our help centre so we can investigate this allegation," the spokesperson said.
