ALDI Is Selling a TJ’s Dupe That’s Arguably Better and Cheaper

Whenever I go to Trader Joe’s, I usually pick up one or two packages of their apple chicken sausages. But, there isn’t a Trader Joe’s near me, so I was really excited to see that my local ALDI is selling Harvest Apple Chicken Sausage as a specialty item.

What’s So Great About Simply Nature Harvest Apple Chicken Sausage

A package of five chicken sausages cost $4.99, and the entire package weighs 12 ounces (each weighs 4 ounces, which is a good size). They’re also, I think, $1 less expensive than the sausages at Trader Joe’s. That's a win for me!

I love chicken and apples together in a sausage, and the ones at ALDI, unlike my favorites at TJ’s, are organic to boot. The ALDI sausages taste pretty similar to TJ’s, but they have a bit more oomph, as they also are flavored with maple syrup, ginger, black pepper, sea salt, and dried onions. It’s basically meat, apples, and these ingredients. I love that there aren’t any preservatives, additives, ingredients I can’t pronounce, or “natural flavoring,” whatever that is. They also contain 13 grams of protein per sausage, and since my son always needs more protein, this is a really good way to get more of it.

Frankly, I think I’d buy them even if they weren’t organic. They just taste so good. They’re slightly sweet, with the right hint of apples and maple syrup.

My 14-year-old son absolutely loves them. In fact, he ate one each morning for breakfast for an entire week (and then wanted more when they were gone).

How I Like to Use This Chicken Sausage

Usually, I serve them with pancakes or waffles, but one morning, my son ate one as a side dish to his cereal. My son usually likes to dip them in maple syrup, but my husband and I think they’re sweet enough without adding more maple syrup.

I think they would also make a nice substitute for hot dogs—if you grilled them, they would taste divine.

I’ve sliced them and used them in a Cajun-style rice and beans dish, and I’ve also added them to breakfast casseroles. They would taste great in dinner casseroles, too.

Mostly, though, my family eats them for breakfast. I like them so much that I buy a couple of packages, which I toss into my freezer. Then, I simply warm one up for one minute in the microwave, and we’re good to go. But since my son just finished the last package, I guess I’m going back to ALDI!
