A Facebook user has sparked a major discussion online after asking what products Aldi fans would suggest a non-Aldi shopper buy to keep costs down. The social media user wrote, "I’m looking to start shopping at Aldi but I’m an Aldi virgin if you wanna call it that 🤣 I was wondering what the best products (bonus points if some are gluten/dairy free) are to buy there?"

They added, "How much cheaper is it to shop at Aldi compared to Coles & do you find everything you need or do you find you need to stop at Coles or Woolworths as well? Thank you!"

Most people who replied shared that they do most, if not all, of their shopping at Aldi and supplement a few other products from other supermarkets.

The five items that clearly stood out were cleaning supplies, including:

"You certainly won’t find everything you want at Aldi but the best things to buy are: Laundry liquid, laundry prewash, disinfectant, [and] dishwasher tablets," another agreed. "All far superior to other brands (in my opinion) and a fraction of the cost."

"Cleaning stuff is the biggest difference, laundry liquid, dishwashing liquid, dishwasher tablets, stain remover, etc are much cheaper, the cheeses and chocolates are really good too," a third said. "Frozen food wise, I really like the dumplings, gozleme, potato gratin, gourmet pies and quesadillas. Egg linguini/tagliatelle is pretty good too, also the curry simmer sauce jars with spices on top."

"I shopped with Aldi in the UK and was so happy when they opened here, most items made in Australia and the only item I don't buy is their sliced grain bread otherwise I save about $30 on a shop," a fourth fan said.

"I do find myself having to go to Woollies to do an additional shop for specific items, but on the most part Aldi has a great range and it is cheaper," someone else said. "I like: Trimat Laundry Powder, DiSan soaker, salmon fillets (fresh or frozen), Viva bread, medium roast coffee beans, individual popcorn packs, frozen veg."

"If you're short of money ALDI is the best! But if you or your family are fussy on brands or specific flavours, you may need a visit to other shops," one fan added.

One user shared a long list of products they love, including cleaning products, cheese, greek yoghurt, hummus, beef burgers, meatballs, pork, bacon, chips, crackers, frozen fish, frozen vegetables, frozen tater tots, onion rings, oven chips, tinned tomatoes, olive oil, rice and pasta.

Others warned shoppers not to bother with Aldi cereal and said to shop in the mornings to avoid getting there and the shelves being bare.
