Aldi 'colour-changing soap' fail confuses shoppers: ‘What am I doing wrong?’

One of the great things about Aldi’s Special Buys is that you never know what you’re going to find in the store's magical middle aisle.

So, when some shoppers spotted colour-changing kids' soap that encouraged better handwashing, they snapped it up.

The Aldi website states the $2 bottle of soap uses “colour changing technology” to change the suds' colour when hand washing is done properly.

But dozens of mums say there’s one big problem - it doesn't actually change colour.

“Did anyone else buy the "colour changing soap? I can’t for the life of me figure out how to see the colour friggin change,” one confused shopper wrote on social media.

“Anyone successfully saw colour changing?”

Customers left disappointed

Unable to work out what she was doing wrong, the Aldi shopper from Western Australia was happy to hear she wasn’t alone.

Her post was immediately flooded with comments from other confused mums who said they had a similar experience.

Many said they had purchased the antibacterial soap to encourage their kids to wash their hands thoroughly, but were disappointed and puzzled after testing it.

“I was devo. Didn't see it change,” one mum wrote.

“I was so excited to show my four-year-old and we started washing our hands and I said ‘it changes colour’ and then nothing happened, and I was like, yep, I got sucked in.”

“I thought it was just me not using it correctly," another said.

"Even the instructions are unclear.

Run your hands underwater for 1 minute and see the colour change.

All the suds are gone by then."

'Total waste of money'

Others said the popular special buy was a regretful purchase after several attempts to make it work in different water temperatures and for different lengths of time.

“Biggest waste of money," one said.

"I thought oh my daughter would love this; I washed my hands a good 10x and nothing."

The soap, available in Strawberry and Raspberry or Mango and Peach Smoothie, was successful for some, but even then the results were disappointing.

“It’s absolute BS; I think it comes out with a slight pink tint and goes white but, yes, false advertising!” another disappointed mum said.

“The one I have goes from a light yellow/orange and changes colour to white. Very disappointed three-year-old,” added another.

"Starts light-coloured but turns white when it’s rubbed between your hands ... Not as “fun” as I thought it would be," said a third.

Luckily, there was one upside to the failed kids soap.

Despite the disappointment in the promised colour change, customers said the only positive was the smell.

“Only plus is it smells great,” one mum wrote.

Another agreed: “No colour change but it smells amazing.”

Well, at least there's one plus in this Aldi product fail.

Yahoo Lifestyle understands that customers who are unsatisfied with the colour-changing soap and any other products can return them in-store for a full refund.
