Alan Cumming Jokes Taylor Swift 'Stole My Look' at the VMAs on Emmys 2024 Red Carpet

The Scottish actor called out the similarities between their plaid ensembles

Hollywood is in its plaid era.

Days after Taylor Swift stepped on the VMAs red carpet in a plaid Dior ensemble, Alan Cumming hit the 76th annual Primetime Emmy Awards clad in the classic pattern.

At the Sunday, Sept. 15 award show, the actor, 59, paid homage to his native Scotland in a white jacket with a plaid wrap detail over a black kilt. Speaking to PEOPLE on the red carpet, Cumming shared that the ensemble was by Teddy Vonranson.

When asked about fans commenting that Swift's VMAs look was reminiscent of Cumming's wardrobe on his series The Traitors, the actor teasingly replied: "The b---- stole my look."

He continued, "It was hilarious because well actually because in the next season there's a look I have that's obviously very similar but I think it's hilarious that so many people sort of said Taylor Swift looks like Alan Cumming, which is a sentence I never thought I would hear."

Cumming is nominated for outstanding host for his role on The Traitors, a murder mystery competition reality series. The show takes place at an ancient castle in Scotland and as host, the Spy Kids actor has taken to wearing a variety of bold plaid looks.

Earlier this week, the actor took to social media to jokingly call out Swift for the similarities in their looks. "Ahem, @taylorswift," he captioned and Instagram post which featured a collage of images from The Traitors next to a shot of Swift at the VMAs.

Swift's sexy look featured a yellow plaid bustier top with an attached skirt, a pair of black velvet hot pants and caged leather gloves, all by Dior. She also wore thigh-high boots by Stuart Weitzman and opted for an extra vampy makeup look. Her hair was styled with textured waves and side-swept bangs.

She topped it all off with 30-carat Lorraine Schwartz pear shape canary yellow diamond earrings surrounded by black Jade to tie into the yellow plaid.
