If you are one of Pieter Mulier’s 200,000 followers, you’ll know he’s an avid documentarian of his life. It’s not uncommon to see glimpses of his vast book collection, portraits of his beloved dog, John John and of course, his fanciful creations for the house of Alaia. Since joining the house as Creative Director in 2021, he’s been able to establish a visual language that pulls from a subversive assemblage of references— models in intimate and candid models, the curves of the Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse dancers up close holding their popular Teckel bag and a smiling Gisele’s glossy rouged lips up-close with no Alaia product in frame — Mulier and the brand has been able understand that the storytelling around the collected bricolage makes Alaia wholly its own.

So it makes sense, the brand is announcing its latest book — Alaïa by Seklaoui. Preferring the term dialogue to discuss the collaboration, the book, published by Mörel, contains photography from Anthony Seklaoui who captured pivotal moments, fly-on-the-wall style. From the Maison’s creative process and creation of the latest Alaïa collections by Pieter Mulier, up to his Spring 2025 show at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.

The book aims to document both the beauty and the chaos of what it takes to create. Mulier shares exclusively with Bazaar, “Anthony has a remarkable eye, one that can extract beauty from the chaos. Alaïa by Seklaoui is a tribute to our friendship, but most of all to all those who contribute to the magic of a collection coming to life. The ateliers, the teams, the production, the girls walking the show—all those who are part of the Alaïa circle.”

Seklaoui, who have collaborated with the Alaia previously on brand campaigns explains, “During Pieter's first collection, rue de Moussy, a powerful feeling seized me—I knew then that the photographs would carry the strength of the moment and would stay to haunt me. From that moment on, with undeniable purpose, the book had already started."

Alaïa by Seklaoui will be available for through Alaïa boutiques, maison-alaia.com, and selected distributors. A limited special edition of 250 copies, presented in a custom-made Alaïa box and in a larger format, will also be available for retail.
