Abbott Elementary Lands Early Season 5 Renewal at ABC
Class will remain in session at Abbott Elementary: ABC has renewed the critically acclaimed comedy for Season 5.
The renewal comes two weeks after the Quinta Brunson sitcom returned for the back-half of its fourth season, which kicked off with an unlikely crossover with FXX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It’s the first ABC series to be picked up for the 2025-26 TV season.

Through its fall finale, Abbott was averaging 3.3 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating (with delayed playback), holding rock steady in audience versus Season 3. Its midseason premiere, leading out Shifting Gears’ boffo launch, drew 3.8 mil and 0.7 in Live+Same Day ratings, easily marking the elementary school series’ best numbers of the season.
Abbott Elementary stars Brunson (who also created the series) as Janine Teagues, a teacher at a cash-strapped Philadelphia elementary school. Tyler James Williams co-stars as Janine’s fellow teacher (and slow-burn love interest) Gregory, with Sheryl Lee Ralph as veteran teacher Barbara, Janelle James as principal Ava, Lisa Ann Walter and Chris Perfetti as teachers Melissa and Jacob, and William Stanford Davis as custodian Mr. Johnson. New episodes air Wednesdays at 8:30/7:30c on ABC (and stream next day on Hulu).
