Abbie Chatfield reveals she and Konrad are in an open relationship
They quickly became Australia’s reality TV golden couple last year after taking their romance public, and now Abbie Chatfield and Konrad Bien-Stephen have added a whole new dynamic to their relationship.
The pair, who both rose to fame on The Bachelor franchise, announced on Abbie’s podcast It’s A Lot on Tuesday that they’ve decided to be in an open relationship.
“Everyone, mummy and daddy aren’t breaking up. We’re just having a different structure to our relationship,” she began. “So we’re in an open relationship, which we love.”
“I’ve never been in an open relationship before, but it’s something I want to explore and I want to navigate and I want to learn,” Konrad added.
They went on to explain that they are “open sexually but not emotionally”, no one is “forcing the other” to implement this change, and they have a number of ground rules set in place.

The “basic rules” detail that they can’t sleep with someone that they’ve had sex with before, they can’t sleep with their friends, and they can’t sleep with the same person more than once unless they speak about it beforehand.
Abbie added that she and Konrad, who currently live in different states, plan on seeing a sex therapist or couple therapist to openly discuss their boundaries so they can make this work.
“There’s so much more to a relationship than just sex,” Konrad said.
The 2021 I’m A Celebrity champion later revealed that she has “never ever ever valued monogamy” and her “kink” is wanting her partner to sleep with other people.
“Monogamy isn’t important to me but honesty is, so we tell each other things,” she continued. “It’s about betrayal. If you’re allowed to f**k someone it isn’t cheating, but you can cheat on me if you f**ked an ex-girlfriend.”
Konrad also admitted he feels “confident” about the evolution of their relationship because he’s “still in love and obsessed” with Abbie after having sex with someone else.
“I think our relationship, in an emotional sense, and the connection we have and the time we spend together, I can’t compare it,” he added. “I don't think you could find what we have in someone else that easily.”
“Someone said to me, ‘What’s the difference in just being f**k buddies?’. Well, we’re moving in together, we’re getting a dog, we’re very much in love. The only thing that makes a relationship is not monogamy,” Abbie concluded.
The podcast episode comes shortly after Abbie shared a video on social media documenting the sweet moment that Konrad took her to a drive-in cinema - which she says has always been her “life dream” - and told her that he loved her for the first time.
The post featured a series of clips of the couple preparing for the event, including Konrad putting a mattress on the back of his ute, buying snacks at the supermarket, arriving at Village Cinemas Coburg Drive-In in Melbourne and then kissing while watching the movie.
“Reminder to never settle,” she captioned the Instagram video. “Gone from years of gaslighting to having the purest angel on the planet.”
