Abbie Chatfield 'so excited' for Kmart reopening: 'Can't believe it'

She might be reality TV royalty but Abbie Chatfield is just like the rest of us living in NSW: simply ecstatic at the news that Kmart will be reopening on Monday, October 11.

After four-plus months in lockdown, shoppers are champing at the bit to get back to their favourite discount retailer once the state's 'Freedom Day' rolls around.

Excitement for Kmart reopening

Going by her Instagram Stories on Thursday night, former Bachelor star Abbie will be first in line at her local store.

"I can't believe we can go to Kmart next week," she exclaimed in a video filmed from her bed.

"Literally just had that thought while about to go to sleep and now I have adrenaline pumping haha," she added.

And it appears the podcaster isn't alone in her excitement. Over on Facebook, Kmart fans were buzzing over an email from the CEO John Gualtieri announcing the store's reopening.

"First stop my local Kmart!" remarked one fan in the comments.

"Monday morning 8am!!! I'm there!!" added another.

Kmart CEO outlines vaccine requirements

Sadly, the reopening joy doesn't extend to shoppers in Victoria, who remain in lockdown as cases continue to surge.

"Not poor Melbourne," one Facebook user lamented.

"I got excited seeing this post till I saw 'NSW' lol, hang in there, we’ll get to Kmart soon," replied another.

In his email to NSW shoppers, Kmart CEO John Gualtieri said that while the past two years had been 'tough,' there was 'light at the end of the tunnel'.

"Thanks to the incredible vaccine efforts across the state, we're finally able to return to some sort of normality.

"And like most businesses, we're ecstatic to be reopening our doors on Monday 11th October."

He went on to outline the in-store COVID-safe measures such as check-ins, customer number limits, face masks and proof of vaccination.

"As per the NSW Government requirement, customers will need to show proof that they are fully COVID-19 vaccinated, unless a medical exemption applies. We ask for your patience and support as we roll this new process out across our store network," he wrote.

Abbie, who was recently announced as The Love Island Afterparty host, has long been vocal about her support for vaccines and lockdowns.

She recently received backlash after posting a TikTok showing off the outfit she was planning to wear for her first post-lockdown outing.

The 26-year-old swiftly shut down the numerous hate comments and death threats made towards her on her Nova podcast It’s A Lot, saying that it's "ridiculous".

"All of the anti-vaxxers are having a sook, like 'you’ll thank us freedom fighters later'," she began.

"I’m like, ‘okay anyway, I’m going to pick my outfit now for when I go to a restaurant because I actually don’t give a sh*t what you’re doing anymore'."
