The 7 Best Watches of the Week, From Drake’s Jacob & Co. to Mark Wahlberg’s Patek Philippe
Things were pretty quiet in celebrity land this week with very few parties, film festivals, or star-studded concerts, but we still managed to spot some top watch candy on the wrists of our favorite stars. Drake was celebrating his birthday in Houston with not one but two Jacob & Co. watches, Mark Wahlberg was taking a sauna at home with his brand-new Patek Philippe Cubitus (although he took it off before going in), and Burna Boy was photographed court-side at a Lakers game in L.A sporting a Richard Mille.
Elsewhere, we discovered Lionel Messi rocked an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked “Cactus Jack”, Peyton Manning was at work covering NFL action in his Panerai GoldTech, Eddy Redmayne was seen on his way to join Jimmy Kimmel Live in an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades, and last but not least, Irish actor Paul Mescal was in Australia rocking a tiny vintage Cartier Baignoire.

Burna Boy: Richard Mille RM11-03
Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer Burna Boy attended a basketball game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings this week wearing his Richard Mille RM11-03. Even though we could only see a glimpse of his timepiece peeking out from his shirt, there was no mistaking the large yellow crown, chronograph pushers, and rose gold tonneau-shaped case. The RM11-03 is an open-worked flyback chronograph powered by the brand’s automatic caliber RMAC3 featuring a Grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridges for rigidity. In addition to the flyback chronograph, this timepiece also features a 60-minute countdown timer, a 12-hour totalizer, an oversize date, month indicator and variable-geometry rotor.
Drake: Jacob & Co. Five Time Zones
Rapper Drake celebrated his birthday in Houston this week wearing not one, but two vintage Jacob & Co. Five Time Zone watches from 2004. On his right wrist was a paved timepiece featuring a diamond dial in primary colors fitted with a yellow alligator strap, while on his left arm, we could see a Diamond Accents dial in pastel colors on a blue alligator strap. Both timepieces are 47mm and are part of the Five Time Zone collection that was launched by Jacob & Co. in 2002. This was the brand’s debut watch collection that indicated five different time zones on each dial, making it both visually striking and practical for artists on tour.
Lionel Messi: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked “Cactus Jack”
Lionel Messi posted a photograph of himself this week wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked “Cactus Jack”. This timepiece was made in collaboration with hip-hop artist Travis Scott and his brand/record label Cactus Jack. It is housed in a unique 41mm brown ceramic case, a first for Audemars Piguet, and features a number of Cactus Jack’s design elements, including typography based on Travis Scott’s own handwriting. Scott also mentions this “Chocolate AP” in his song Meltdown, which is on his recent album Utopia. The collection is limited to 200 pieces and obviously caught the eye of Lionel Messi, who in addition to his soccer skills, has impeccable taste in watches.
Mark Wahlberg: Patek Philippe Cubitus
Actor Mark Wahlberg was sharing his wellness routine in the sauna this week with the brand-new Patek Philippe Cubitus, which he even names and takes off before going in. This is the first new collection released by Patek Philippe in 25 years and Wahlberg has chosen the Reference 5821/1A which comes in stainless steel with a horizontally ribbed olive-green dial and indicates the time and date. For the watch nerds out there, the timepiece is powered by the Caliber 26-330 S C which has a stop-seconds feature, meaning when you pull out the crown, the seconds stop so you can set the watch to the exact second.
Peyton Manning: Panerai Goldtech
Former professional quarterback Peyton Manning was spotted on television this week on his show “Best of Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli” wearing a Panerai Goldtech in 44mm. Part of the Luminor Marina collection, this timepiece comes in a special gold alloy that was developed by Panerai’s Laboratorio di Idee and contains a high percentage of copper (24%) that has been combined with platinum (0.4%), giving it a unique color and improving its mechanical and oxidation resistance. The watch is powered by Panerai’s in-house automatic caliber and comes with a deep blue sandwich dial with a satin-finished sunray decoration. Manning wasn’t the only athlete to be wearing Panerai this week as Howie Long was also on camera wearing his Panerai Luminor on Fox NFL.
Eddie Redmayne: Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades
British actor Eddie Redmayne, perhaps best known for his Oscar-winning performance playing the famous cosmologist Stephen Hawking, was seen in Los Angeles this week. He was in town to join “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and was sporting an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades. This timepiece comes with a terracotta dial that is made from brass and then lacquered and sunbrushed from the center. Housed in a 38mm stainless steel case, it is powered by the brand’s famous Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement that is self-winding, resists magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, and has a power reserve of 55 hours. A fan of Omega for many years, expect to see even more Omegas on Redmayne’s wrist in the future as he recently became an official ambassador for the brand.
Paul Mescal: Cartier Baignoire
Irish actor Paul Mescal was in Australia this week for the Premiere of his movie “Gladiator II”. Taking selfies with fans in front of the theatre, he can be seen wearing a vintage Cartier Baignoire timepiece from 1970s in yellow gold with a black strap. This isn’t the first mini vintage Cartier the actor has been seen wearing of late, he has also been spotted wearing various different mini Cartier Tank watches at recent events. Vintage Cartier timepieces have become highly sought-after recently with prices varying greatly. You can also purchase a brand-new one in yellow gold for $6,900.
