The 7 Best Watches of the Week, From Brad Pitt’s Patek Philippe to George Clooney’s Omega

With New York Fashion Week, the Venice Film Festival, the U.S. Open, and several other high-profile events occurring this week, the streets were awash with incredible wrist candy.

Celebrity besties Brad Pitt and George Clooney promoted their new flick Wolfs in Venice while rocking smart dress watches by Patek Philippe and Omega, respectively. Perennially suave Bond star Daniel Craig also showed off an Omega at a screening of Queer in the floating city.

Back across the pond, comedian TJ Miller and actor Justin Theroux rocked different versions of Rolex’s iconic Submariner. Fellow celeb Don Cheadle flexed an Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 on Late Night with Seth Meyers while newly appointed Mercedes F1 driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli flaunted his team’s signature IWC pilot’s watch.

Below are the best watch flexes of the week.

Daniel Craig: Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra

Daniel Craig looked as suave as 007 during the Queer screening in Venice on Tuesday. The former James Bond star paired a stylish Loewe suit with a steely Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra for the red carpet. Priced at $6,600, the sleek timepiece features a 41 mm stainless steel case, a black lacquered dial with rhodium-plated accents, and an integrated steel bracelet. Craig, who has been an Omega ambassador since he assumed the role of Bond for Casino Royale in 2006, was recently spotted wearing an unreleased Seamaster at the Olympics. Bond would be proud.

Brad Pitt gets a gold star for his watch choice in Venice. The always-stylish American flexed another, stunning solid-gold timepiece during the Wolfs photocall at Palazzo del Casino on Sunday evening. Pitt, who also counts a yellow-gold Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222 and Rolex GMT Master II in his collection, appears to be wearing a coveted Patek Philippe Calatrava (Ref. 2526) on an F-style bracelet. If we are correct, it is quite the flex: Ref. 2526 was the first self-winding model from Patek, and that bracelet is probably worth as much as the watch head alone.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli: IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41

Andrea Kimi Antonelli has only just joined the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team, but he’s already adjusted his daily beater accordingly. The Italian driver recently showed off an IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 (Ref. IW388108) designed to honor the three-pointed star’s racing outfit. (The Swiss watchmaker has created several models for Mercedes since 2004.) The watch fittingly showcases the team colors, with a 41 mm titanium case, a black dial, and a green rubber strap. Green also appears on the day and date display (a touch not all watch companies make the effort to get right), as well as on the three chronograph counters, and the hour and minute markers. We might say it’s “tealed out.” Priced at $8,350, the timepiece is a great way to show allegiance to Mercedes.

TJ Miller: Rolex Submariner “Hulk”

TJ Miller’s Rolex may make other comedians and watch collectors green with envy. Released in 2010, the Submariner (Ref. 116610LV) features a green Cerachrom bezel, a green sunray dial, and a chunky 40 mm “Maxi” case. Affectionately nicknamed the “Hulk” for obvious reasons, the timepiece was discontinued in 2020 as the Crown introduced larger iterations with fresh colorways. The all-green model was selling for more than $26,000 during the pandemic but is now available for below $17,000 thanks to falling Rolex prices.

Justin Theroux: Rolex Submariner Date

Justin Theroux wore a suitably stylish vintage Rolex to the Ralph Lauren show during New York Fashion Week. Produced in 1971—the same year the American actor and filmmaker was born—the Submariner Date (Ref. 1680) is made of solid, 18-karat yellow gold rather than the standard stainless steel. The reference is also replete with charming old-school touches, such as a black “nipple” dial and acrylic crystal. Theroux reportedly hunted down a 1971 Submariner as a birthday present to himself, according to Bob’s Watches. You can treat yourself to one too, but expect to pay around $40,000.

George Clooney: Omega De Ville Hour Vision

Horological history has repeated itself. Last year, George Clooney was spotted leaving a boat in Venice, Italy, with a sleek steel Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra on his wrist. This year, the American actor alighted from a boat in the floating city, with an Omega De Ville Hour Vision on his wrist. Originally introduced in 2007, the De Ville Hour has been through many different iterations. This particular model features a 41 mm steel case, a silver dial with a striking grooved rhodium-plated hour track, a date window at three o’clock, and a black leather strap. Fun fact: Clooney also wore the watch in Up in the Air. Sadly, it is no longer listed on the Omega website.

Don Cheadle wore a punchy Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 to speak about Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday night. Originally released in January 2019, the Code 11.59 has been reinterpreted many times. This particular iteration features a sizable 41 mm case in 18-carat pink gold, a lacquered white dial with a white inner bezel, and a hand-stitched alligator strap. Under the sapphire crystal lies a pink-gold Audemars Piguet signature, matching gold markers and hands, and AP’s signature angled date display. Punchy, indeed.
