However, due to the Los Angeles fires, which also delayed the Critics Choice Awards, the Oscar nominations weren't announced until the following week. The ceremony itself, however, will remain at the same time.

Every movie that was released in theaters between Jan. 1, 2024 and Dec. 31, 2024 is eligible. Movies that debut on streaming platforms are only eligible if they have a qualifying run in theaters as well.

When were the 2025 Oscar nominations announced?

Nominations were announced bright and early on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. EST. Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang announced the nominees live from the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Nominations were originally slated to be announced on Jan. 17, but the date was pushed back due to the LA fires.
