Oscars Original Song Finalists Led By ‘Emilia Pérez’s Double Nominations — Listen To Them Here
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences harmonized its Original Song Oscar nominations Thursday morning. Read by Saturday Night’s Rachel Sennott and Wicked’s Bowen Yang, the pair announced the five-slot roster spots for “El Mal” and “Mi Camino” from Emilia Pérez, “The Journey” from The Six Triple Eight, “Like a Bird” from Sing Sing, “Never Too Late” from Elton John: Never Too Late.
Though it is not the first time the Oscars has foregone performances from the Original Song category, one of the biggest surprises was announced a day prior to the nominations reveal from Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang. In a letter sent to Academy members, the pair detailed plans that aim to honor the city of Los Angeles in wake of the devastation caused by the recent wildfires. The show will instead spotlight the musicians and their creative teams through personal reflections and inspirations for their nominated songs.
