First Aid For Preschoolers

Norwegian research** has shown you’re never too young to learn first aid!

Four- and five-year-olds were successfully taught a series of simple first-aid steps and, two months on, were “still able to work out whether a person was unconscious or asleep and whether an accident victim was breathing,” says researcher Dr Georg Bollig.

“The children could also remember the phone number of the emergency services and accurately describe their location.”

Following the 'five-finger rule', the five first-aid steps taught to the kids were to:
1. Look at the sick or injured person.
2. Talk to the person to see if they could get a response from him.
3. Touch the person to try to wake him up.
4. Call the emergency services.
5. Stay and give comfort.
