‘The Young and the Restless’ star Daniel Goddard joins ‘General Hospital’

Actor Daniel Goddard, formerly of The Young and the Restless, will debut on ABC’s General Hospital in a newly created role.

Goddard has joined the show in the role of Professor Henry Dalton. His first appearance is scheduled to air on April 15, 2025.

Speaking to TV Insider, Goddard described his role of Dalton as, “He teaches environmental physics. It seems there are some things in his past that he’s done that have left him in a position of some form of investigation and from there, it’s an absolute mystery to me.”

While Goddard is ecstatic about playing Professor Dalton, this wasn’t originally the role that he auditioned for. Goddard explained that initially, he was up for the role of Jack Brennan when Charles Mesure vacated the role. Goddard clarified the casting process. “I was like, ‘Oh, wow. There’s a bunch of people here and there’s competition,’ so instantly I become fearful of the fact that I didn’t want to fail,” he explains. “So, I kind of felt this incredible pressure, and I walked in the room, and I saw Laura Wright, Frank Valentini, the writers, and Mark Teschner, and I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, this is real. This is really happening.'” That role went to Chris McKenna, but a few weeks later, the team reached out with the role of Dalton, a part specifically made with Goddard in mind.

Since joining the soap, Goddard has worked with established soap veterans Finola Hughes and Eden McCoy. Goddard spoke positively of his co-workers, first speaking of Hughes, the actor said, “What a blessing to have someone with Finola’s cachet, and her value and her experience and talent.” The actor added when speaking about McCoy, “I think she’s fantastic. With Josslyn, it’s professor and student, and a great push and pull there.”

Goddard began his acting career on the Australian soap opera Home and Away, where he played Eric Phillips. He then joined the American pop culture scene when he landed the role of Dar on Beastmaster. Goddard became a household name for soap opera fans when he accepted the role of con artist Cane Ashby on The Young and the Restless.

General Hospital airs weekdays at 2 p.m. EST on ABC and streams weekdays on Hulu.
