Woman's epic $7 Kmart fridge makeover divides: 'It's a different fridge'

The DIY success story divided opinions, with some suggesting it was too good to be true.

A woman's astonishing transformation of an old bar fridge using a $7 Kmart product has impressed to the point where sceptics accused her of swapping it for an entirely new refrigerator to feign her own handiwork.

Taking to the Kmart Home Decor & Hacks Facebook group, the crafty shopper shared a striking before-and-after snapshot of the fridge. Her caption read, "I wrapped my old bar fridge with the Kmart black vinyl."

She further detailed the method for her project, explaining before applying the vinyl, she carefully sanded down the handles and other plastic components of the fridge that couldn't be wrapped. These elements were then treated to a coat of flat black spray paint purchased from a hardware store.

However, such a remarkable transformation inevitably stirred a debate, with suspicions cast by those who couldn't believe the change was authentic.

A few critics even suggested the images were a different refrigerator entirely.

"It seems almost unreal," one person said, with another person also hinting that it might be too good to be true.

"Why you lying?" the person accused. "That's a completely different fridge."

"Take this negative comment as a positive," one supporter suggested, "You've done such a fantastic job that someone thinks it's a different fridge!"

In response to the scepticism, the original poster took the high road and shared a series of step-by-step images of the transformation process. This visual proof offered a resounding answer to any doubters.

"If you look closely, you will see some imperfections," the woman wrote before offering some advice to others keen to try a similar makeover on their own appliances.

"Just take it slow and make sure your surface is clean so that nothing sticks to the vinyl that will show up. It wasn't difficult at all."
