Tayla Clark’s 6-month-old dog, Benji, was chewing on a carrot when she noticed something fall out of his mouth. At first, the 23-year-old thought it was just a chunk of carrot, but upon closer inspection, she realized it was a tooth.
That’s when she realized Benji, a toy Moodle, had lost his first tooth.
“I was so excited! I didn’t know if I’d ever get to see any of his baby teeth since they often swallow them or they go unnoticed,” the dog mom, who got Benji with her partner in October 2024, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “I showed my partner, FaceTimed our families and housemate to share the moment. I realized Benji wasn’t going to stay a puppy forever, and he was growing up. I was a little sad, but also so eager to see how his personality would continue to develop.”

Tayla Clark with her dog BenjiRight away, Clark knew she had to get Benji a gift from the Tooth Fairy for his first lost tooth. While she knows some people might think it’s silly to treat pets like children, she says she and her partner truly love Benji as if he were their own.
While searching for the perfect gift, Clark came across a ball pit at a local shop in Australia. As soon as she saw it, she knew it was the one. Not only was it fun, but it also fit perfectly with their other lounge room furniture.
“He’s always been an inquisitive pup who loves to show his emotions,” Clark shares. “He’ll let you know whether he’s sad, happy, excited. He has some of the best zoomies I’ve ever seen and loves causing a ruckus around the house. He enjoys stealing toilet paper rolls from the bin, hiding them under the bed and tearing them up.”
"Benji deserves to be loved and though he might not understand that he got the ball pit in trade for his tooth, I knew he would enjoy it anyways," she continues.

Tayla Clark's dog Benji in the ball pitClark says that at first, after gifting Benji the ball pit, she wasn’t sure what to make of it. She even had to climb in herself and start playing to get him interested. But once she added his other toys to it, he loved it.
"Now, he hides his treats in the ball pit and does this funny thing where he launches himself in — especially when we’re throwing things in there,” she adds. “My favorite moments in the ball pit are when my partner throws the balls down the hall and into the pit, and Benji launches himself in after them.”

Eventually, Clark shared a video of the moment they surprised Benji with the ball pit on the TikTok account she created for him. The first video she posted of Benji, which featured his first haircut, attracted more than 2,000 followers, so she knew people would want to see more of him.
And that’s exactly what happened. The video quickly went viral, amassing more than 5.5 million views and 2,000 comments.
“Honestly, I’m not surprised so many people love Benji — he’s one of the most lovable pups I’ve met,” she continues. “I am a little bit in shock over how many people have seen the video! I think people appreciate the break of seeing something so uncontroversial in their feed. It gives followers a chance to just look at photos of Benji and have positive thoughts.”
“People should spoil their pups," she adds. "They bring so much joy to us, we should return the favor. They might only be a small part of your world, but to them, you are their whole world. They only have a short time on earth, so try to give them the best life you can. Give them all the love and attention!”
