Woman Discovers ‘Hundreds, if Not Thousands’ of Ants Swarming Walls of Bathroom on Vacation: WATCH (Exclusive)

The woman shares with PEOPLE that a worker "used the shower to try and spray them down, which got rid of the masses, but they kept coming"

A woman's recent vacation accommodation included a terrifying surprise.

While traveling in Vietnam, freelance copywriter Marissa Mcgarr, 26, encountered a colony of ants suddenly covering the walls, ceiling, and floor of the bathroom of her hostel.

"It was around midnight, and I had just taken a shower and was getting ready for bed. I had been in my room for about 20 minutes after getting out of the shower before going back into the bathroom, and when I went back in, there were literally hundreds, if not thousands, swarming the wall," Mcgarr, who didn't share the name of her accommodation, tells PEOPLE.

She captured the horrifying sight in a video that has garnered nearly two million views on TikTok.

"It's literally midnight right now," Mcgarr says in the clip after panning her phone's camera up and down the ant-filled wall. "I don't have any idea what the f--k to do. I don't know what to do at all."

She tells PEOPLE that she filmed the viral clip after being stunned by the ants and jumping "like 10 feet back."

"After that I went looking for someone that could help me," Mcgarr says. "It was midnight, so not many people were up or not in their rooms, but I found one guy. He didn't speak English, and I don't speak Vietnamese, haha, so after realizing I had no idea how to describe this to him without just showing him, he was definitely concerned [about] why I was trying to drag him into my room in the middle of the night. Finally, after saying 'help help' and dragging him into my room, he understood."

Although Mcgarr travels full-time, she has "never experienced anything like this."

She explains that the worker "used the shower to try and spray them down, which got rid of the masses, but they kept coming."

"He ended up just giving me keys to go and stay in a different room for the night because it was like 1 a.m. at this point," Mcgarr recalls. "The next morning, he said they were gone, and I could go back into my room. I was very hesitant about it, but there was not a single ant."

Mcgarr says that while "no ants ever showed up again" during the additional "5 or 6 more days" she stayed at the hostel, she was "living in fear the rest of my time there."
