Winona Ryder Turns 53! Why She Feels 'Lucky' to Have Longtime Partner Scott Mackinlay Hahn By Her Side
“We connected on so many levels," the 'Beetlejuice' star previously said of Hahn
Happy birthday, Winona Ryder!
The actress behind iconic characters like Beetlejuice’s Lydia Deetz and Heather's Veronica turned 53 on Tuesday, Oct. 29, a milestone she rings in with her partner of over a decade, fashion designer Scott Mackinlay Hahn.
Though the Girl, Interrupted star is fiercely private about her personal life, including her longtime love, she has shared a bit about their life together throughout the years — including how “lucky” she is to have him by her side.
In July 2024, Ryder told Harper’s BAZAAR that the Loomstate founder is “so great.”
“He really is,” she added. “I’m really lucky.”
The pair have been together for 14 years, and first crossed paths at the premiere of her 2010 film Black Swan — and they have a funny meet-cute.
The first time they met, Hahn — who is far removed from Hollywood — mistook Ryder for another actress, accidentally complimenting her on a movie she did not appear in, she told Harper's BAZAAR in 2022.
“He thought I was Milla Jovovich,” she told the magazine with a laugh. “He told me I was great in The Fifth Element.”
In the same interview, the Reality Bites actress also said she and the fashion designer “have so much in common.”
“We connected on so many levels. But it was amazing that he’s not in this business.... I really did try to keep it quiet,” she added.
Since their initial meet-cute (and mix-up!) the couple have been going strong, with Hahn continuing to support Ryder publicly — starting with their official red carpet debut at the premiere of the first season of Stranger Things.

Hahn has also supported his movie star girlfriend at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January 2020 and later, the premieres of season 3 and 4 of Stranger Things.
Most recently, Hahn supported the actress at the premiere of Beetlejuice sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice at the Venice Film Festival in August 2024.

As for the couple’s future together? Ryder — who was previously engaged to Johnny Depp and may or may not be legally married to her Dracula castmate Keanu Reeves — isn’t sure if she will ever walk down the aisle with Hahn or anyone.
When asked about tying the knot in a 2016 interview, the actress said "Marriage? I don't know. I'd rather never have been married than been divorced a few times.”
“Not that there's anything wrong with divorce, but I don't think I could do it if that was a possibility,” she said, adding that “when your parents are madly in love for 45 years, your standards are really high.”
