Why is Snoop Dogg crying? “The Voice ”premiere brings the tears — twice!

Snoop and his fellow judges Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, and Michael Bublé got emotional during the season 26 premiere.

You didn’t know Snoop Dogg could be such a softy, did you? Well, the rap icon doesn’t hold back on the emotion — or the smooth pitches to win over artists — during the premiere episode of The Voice season 26.

Snoop is joined on the coaching panel this season with returning champ and country queen Reba McEntire, coaching vet and alt/pop star Gwen Stefani, and fellow rookie and master of the traditional pop standards Michael Bublé, and it’s clear from the get-go that all four coaches this season are fans of the show mostly because they love working with talent to make them better. One episode in and we already get multiple instances of coaches already taking time to coach an artist or two to improve upon their Blind Audition.

But it seems no one is a bigger champion for the spirit of The Voice — helping artists find their way in the industry and to assist as best they can in making their dreams come true — than Snoop Dogg. He proves as much in the first round of Blind Auditions. (See who's made it so far and which team they're on.)

When crooner and Michael Bublé fan Ben Fagerstedt doesn’t get any of the coaches to push their buttons for his rendition of “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” it’s a bummer, but Michael still wants to help this 23-year-old out, especially if he wants to follow in his footsteps. Not only does he give Ben an astute critique about the difference between singing standards the traditional way and a pop voice, but he also hops up on stage to duet with Ben on his audition song. While it’s a nice moment from Michael, it’s actually Snoop who gets emotional seeing the whole thing go down. By the end, Snoop is wiping tears from his eyes.

“That’s what this show is about, to make these people better at what they do, whether they make it to the show or not,” he says about Michael's moment with Ben. “That’s our job as coaches.” He’s thrilled on Ben’s behalf that he got to go “one-on-one with Bublé.”

Snoop Dogg gets swept up in the moment a second time, later in the episode, when Reba McEntire decides to use a newly introduced tool the coaches have at their disposal this season: the Coach Replay button. This season, coaches can use this “button” once if they regret not turning for a contestant after their performance is over.

When country singer Kendall Eugene finishes his rendition of Morgan Wallen’s “Don’t Think Jesus” and no coach has turned around for him, you can see Reba regrets it almost immediately. The critiques carry on and by the time it’s Reba’s turn, she’s telling Kendall that she loved so much of his performance and has no idea why she didn’t turn — then she tells him she’s using her replay on him.

The 37-year-old Texan thought he was headed home and now he’s on Reba McEntire’s team. He breaks down into tears, and it’s not long before Snoop Dogg is wiping away a tear or two as well. The coaches don’t hear Coldplay’s “Fix You” playing over the moment like we do, but it definitely plays up the emotion of it all. Snoop is the one who begs Reba to go up on stage and give Kendall a hug.

“When I see a man cry, it makes me cry,” he tells his fellow coaches. He was clearly moved to see how much making it on the show meant to Kendall.

Two emotional moments from the “Gin and Juice” rapper, and we’re only one episode in — what’s going to happen once the coaches really get invested in their teams in later rounds? If you haven't already, we might all be wiping away tears along with the D-O-double-G.
